Ever ask yourself why we were being sent to school? Well, I believe when we take our time to think about that question above and provide our answer, we'd realize that our parents sent us to school for one major reason. For me, that reason was "to be learned and also make money" back then in primary school when we would be singing those nursery rhymes about our parents appreciating them for the effort of sending us to school, and in return, we would take good care of them and give them the world if they demanded it.
And then when we finally graduate and come out to the real world, we'd be faced with the responsibility of making ends meet because as graduates the burden of meeting our every need will be shifted from the hands of our parents and will now fall in our hands and that is the real sign of being an adult. Then we start looking for means to make our money, and that is where the ideas start flowing in and flooding our heads like our lives depend on it.
And then those who aren't interested in the job hunting process because in a nation like Nigeria where jobs are scarce, being a graduate doesn't guarantee if you will have when you leave the four corners of that wall called "school" coming to the real world with no jobs, then the minds won't be at rest till the idea to make ends meet develops and then that one business idea poops in and we are good to go.
The only thing that wakes that spirit of hard work inside of us is money." If money weren't attached to survival, I don't think anyone would like to work". So, because money is attached to our daily living, we get to make it a priority for survival. Gone are the days when people take a profession solely for the love they have for it but then come to think of it, can the love we have for that profession pay the bills in acquiring that certificate?
The answer is "no," love for a profession can't pay those bills. I've come to the realization that everything we do in the world we live in revolves around the term "bills." Even charity organizations need funds to be able to organize charity and help the needy.
Hospitals are being built and furnished with money, even the public health centers we have that are being funded by the government of a nation. When you go there for medications, they still charge you for them. Talk more about a hospital being owned by a private individual.
I know providing these necessities for those in need isn't a bad thing, but then everything we do in life revolves around money. People take on a profession because they enjoy it and also for the revenue it is likely to generate in the long run.
I don't think we can find our way back to those moments because the world isn't ready to move backward as well, so it's forward ever. The world keeps growing, and humans, on the other hand, are growing with it as well.
