Testing an emulator on my phone to play Game Boy games.

Hey! I’d been thinking for a while about getting a Pokémon game on my phone. I really wanted to play the old Game Boy Advance titles. Honestly, I was just too lazy to figure it all out and set everything up—I didn’t even know where to start.

But then I asked my girlfriend if she had ever played Pokémon, and she said no. So, since I was visiting her and already had the idea in mind, I started testing out some emulators on my phone.

I found one that worked surprisingly well. You just need to have the ROM file on your phone. I downloaded the ROM in Spanish and extracted the files using an app similar to WinRAR.

I'm more of a PC guy than a mobile gamer. But since I was away from my computer, I finally got to try playing emulator games on my phone.

It turned out way better than I expected, honestly. The game ran perfectly. So I got her to start a spoiler-free playthrough of Pokémon FireRed on the Game Boy Advance.

It's super entertaining to watch someone play it for the first time. As for me, I’m currently getting back into PokeMMO. I’m planning to upload some gameplay soon to share with the Hive Gaming community.

Back to the emulator topic—I’ve also been wanting to play some Yu-Gi-Oh! for a long time. As a kid, I used to buy the cards, but I never really learned how to play. I just collected them because the artwork and overall vibe of the game seemed awesome to me.

I was probably around six years old, and the rules were too complicated for me back then.

I eventually learned how to play Yu-Gi-Oh! thanks to a PC game where you duel Joey Wheeler. It’s called "Yu-Gi-Oh! Power of Chaos: Joey the Passion". It followed the classic rules, including tributes for stronger monsters, so learning the game was quick and easy.

It’s been ages since I last played Yu-Gi-Oh!, and I really felt like building a solid deck and going back to the basics. So I did some digging and found a Game Boy Advance title that’s perfect for scratching that itch right now.

It’s just awesome. There are still so many retro games from those consoles that I haven’t played yet, and they’re still super enjoyable. Best part? They run on very low specs and still manage to be fun and totally worth it.

This emulator game I found has everything I need. You start with a basic deck, and every time you win a duel, you get to open a booster pack with 5 random cards. The game includes an in-game calendar that doesn’t match real-life dates, and there are special events where you get even more cards as rewards. From what I’ve seen, the game includes around 800 cards, even some of the legendary ones.

The game is called "Yu-Gi-Oh! - The Eternal Duelist Soul".

Thanks For Reading!

The emulator app I used is called "Pizzaboy A Basic", which seems to be the free version of this emulator. That’s why the controller appears with a black background. I extracted the ROMs using an app called "RAR," which you can find on the Play Store.
