Lo primero que leí de él fue la novela erótica Diario de un poeta recién cazado, así con z, haciendo una graciosa comparación a que era el hombre una presa que, al contraer matrimonio, había sido “cazado”.

Luego cayó en mis curiosas manos la novela Cuestiones de agua y tierra y sobre esta en particular estaré contándoles un poco hoy. Así que, dándoles un abrazo de buenos días, los invito a quedarse conmigo hasta el final de mi reseña. ¿Me acompañas?

La historia de Cuestiones de agua y tierra ocurre a propósito de un viaje que realizan varias personas con manera de pensar y de sentir muy distintas unas de otras. Las ideologías, la política, incluso la moralidad de los individuos fluctuaba en importantes diferencias entre un personaje y otro.

Por este motivo, durante toda la trama se mantiene un ambiente que roza lo absurdo, el sin sentido, jugando muy de cerca con el sarcasmo y el humor negro. Y es precisamente este ambiente irracional lo que en todo momento quiso mantener el autor. Y lo logró.

Y cuando piensas que ya bajará el nivel de las aguas y que comenzarán a ser más lógicos sus personajes, inician una disputa los hombres (el protagonista y su estudiante Sacha), una apuesta desafiante sobre cuál de ellos podía terminar conquistando a la misma chica, de quien, casualmente estaban enamorados.

Sin embargo, a pesar de lo absurdo de la situación y de los momentos de violencia que a ratos va in crescendo, Curbelo logra mostrar escenas muy sólidas de la amistad a toda costa, de la lealtad y el amor, y de esa parte invisible que todos tienen llamada alma.

Sin lugar a dudas es una lectura que se disfruta, se goza y se sufre con igual intensidad, con pinceladas eróticas tan a su estilo y a las cuales nos tiene acostumbrado este autor.

Jesús David Curbelo es de la provincia de Camagüey, Cuba, tierra que lo vio nacer en el año 1965. Es un talentoso ensayista, crítico literario, poeta, narrador, profesor universitario y traductor. Sus obras son lectura “obligatoria” para los que gustan de la narrativa contemporánea. Sus publicaciones son numerosas, dentro y fuera de Cuba, y todas ellas fueron bien recibidas por los lectores. Solo para recordar algunas, puedo mencionarles:
