The Tree of the Winds is a book of sonnets by the young Las Tunas writer Raúl Leyva Pupo. It carries in its essence, in a lyrical way, a certain ecstasy with the winds that can blow from any of the four cardinal directions: north, south, east and west.

Composed of a total of 25 sonnets that at times try to break any pre-established structure and venture to find challenges in each stanza, The Tree of the Winds manages to surprise us, for the better, as we enter its embrace.

And that there are people who, no matter how brief their passage through our lives, leave imperishable traces.

This young Cuban writer was born in Las Tunas, Cuba in 1991. Not only is he a poet, but he is also a physiotherapist. His first poem was published in the cultural magazine Quetrabajo in 2011. He is a graduate of the Onelio Jorge Cardozo Literary Training Center, 2016. Regino E. Boti short story award, AHS, 2018. Portus Patris poetry award, 2022. Reina del Mar poetry award, 2023 and Mangle Rojo poetry award, 2024. El libro del cual quiero hablarles hoy, lleva en sus páginas una delicadeza y seguridad que se agradece. Se van formando las historias, entretejidas entre cada verso, con una liana invisible, desde el inicio hasta el final. Nada parece estar fuera de lugar o por casualidad. Con una maestría concienzuda, el autor se las arregla para entregarnos un trabajo pulido.

El Árbol de los Vientos es un libro de sonetos del joven escritor tunero Raúl Leyva Pupo. Carga en su esencia, de manera lírica, cierto éxtasis con los vientos que pueden soplar desde cualquiera de las cuatro direcciones cardinales: norte, sur, este y oeste.

Compuesto por un total de 25 sonetos que intentan a ratos romper toda estructura preestablecida y aventurarse a encontrar desafíos y retos en cada estrofa, El Árbol de los Vientos logra sorprendernos, para bien, a medida que nos adentramos en su abrazo.

Tuve la oportunidad de conocer a su autor en marzo del 2024, en la Feria del Libro en Camagüey y entonces comprendí por qué su obra era tan sensible, tan maravillosa, tan buena.

Raúl Leyva Pupo es un ser de alma limpia y mente prodigiosa. Pequeño, delgado y con unos ojillos tan vivos como sus versos, nos enseñó a todos los que coincidimos con él esos días, que se puede abrazar con el corazón. Y que hay personas que, por muy breve que sea su paso por nuestras vidas, dejan huellas imperecederas.

Este joven escritor cubano nació en Las Tunas, Cuba en el año 1991. No solo es poeta, sino que, además, es fisioterapeuta. Su primer poema sale publicado en la revista cultural Quehacer en el 2011. Es egresado del Centro de Formación Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardozo, 2016. Premio de cuentos Regino E. Boti, AHS, 2018. Premio de poesía Portus Patris, 2022.
