Hello, friends of Hive. Today I am here to tell you about one of those extraordinary opportunities that the radio has given me: we went to Cabo de San Antonio! This is where the sun sets in Cuba, an orange sun at sunset, a wonderful natural spectacle. No lens could capture such beauty. Many people who live in this place, where Cuba ends in the west, are faithful listeners of our radio station. In several villages of this place the electricity arrived practically the other day. In one of them there is a plant (as it is also known to the groups of electricity generation by diesel combustion). In contexts like these there is no other choice but to use batteries and enjoy the radio. I once had such a radio receiver. When they played a song that I did not like, I removed the battery until I thought it had run out. Those were my saving mechanisms. Well, some time ago we were asked that the drama group (actors, directors, scriptwriters) of Radio Guamá visit the place and there act for these people who never dreamed they would meet the actors, announcers, actresses, and other artists who daily listened from a radio station so far away for them. It fell to me as the writer of the humorous program to prepare two scripts and some funny sketches and I immediately got down to work. I was so eager to go on an adventure with my colleagues that I packed all I needed in a briefcase and traveled with them. Also, as one of the radio announcers, I introduced the group to the villagers in various areas. We left in a school bus on a Friday morning that stopped in a municipality where another one was waiting for us. It is really far. We arrived in the municipality of Sandino, where there is a radio station and without entering it, which is part of our system, we continued. A whole day on wheels and laughter inside that bus. We arrived at the town of Manuel Lazo, or Cayuco, as it is also known. We were going to stay in a small residence of the University of Pinar del Rio and from there we would move daily to the most intricate places. It is worth mentioning that in that town we were hungry....... They did not sell anything to eat as a snack, not even a pizza. We barely bought some milk creams, which I don't like so much. However, at lunch and dinner, we did eat a lot. Very early in the mornings we moved in a bus to the nearby communities. In each one we repeated some scenes. The curious eyes of the inhabitants would moisten a little at the sight of the actors and actresses who gave voices to the characters of the novel, the detective story, the comedy, the fairy tale, and above all, the children were very interested in an actor who played a cat on the radio. This is beautiful, my reader friends. Radio is magic. I was impressed by the fact that some villagers always walked barefoot, as if ridding their feet of shoes so they could touch the earth and absorb all its energy. Humble, simple people. Within this journey was to reach the Roncali Lighthouse, the one that illuminates the Caribbean Sea of the Yucatan Peninsula. Here we also performed for the villagers. Some of my companions went up to the lighthouse. I was not there when they received the authorization, otherwise I would have gone up. This lighthouse is the image of many commercial brands, even of a wine named after it. We were at the Cape all weekend. We had to return to our station, because work continued, but I can confess that we had such a great time that we did not want to go back. The hospitality is captivating and so is the kindness. We wanted to repeat the experience, but it was not possible. And you, have you been to Cape San Antonio? Have you been near this lighthouse? They say that at night, from this place, you can see the lights of Mexico in the distance. We'll get in touch in the comments. Thanks for reading.
