Who doesn't love holidays? I don't know about you all, but I can't speak for everyone, but I love holidays. Back then, I used to have this mindset and think everyone loved holidays because who doesn't love to rest and just have a break from work, school and every other stress of life. But now I know better than to forget humans are complicated, diverse, unique and highly unpredictable. Some people love work and school for one reason or the other. Some people see these holidays as throwing our hands in the air with joy, for stress and just more problems.
For example, I know a girl in school who hates holidays. And it's not like she loves school or anything. It's just because she prefers staying over at her boyfriend's house, where she has 24 hours of light and even a washing machine. Meanwhile, the house she goes back to for holidays to have some rest is where she says, and I quote, “I am turned into a slave just like Cinderella”. She is the only daughter, so she does all the domestic chores alone. That is her own reason for hating holidays.
Well, as for me, I love holidays. I know I do a lot more work, like chores and numerous errands, and also, I have very little freedom when I am at home. For me it isn't really about these things; it's more about being around my family. I might do a lot of chores, but I am more relaxed and at peace when I am around my family—the people that know me and I know them. I just have this sense of safety at home. And don't forget the most important of all, no school, no classes, no strict sleep and wake-up schedules, and a break from school food.
Currently I don't think the holidays observed in my country annually are that many. And I would just straight up and be honest about it—I wish I could get more holidays. Because holidays come with stress relief for workers and students, it boosts local tourism, family bonding, celebrations and mental health benefits.
Although holidays still have some downsides, like how they affect the economy and the education gap they create. And also let's not forget the people who would totally disagree with me for legit reasons, like the holidays being their actual stress days.
But still I stand on my word—I need more holidays. The next one they should add should be mental health day or days. A day we can all take off to tend to our mental health.
Besides, I doubt in my country right now that if all the holidays were gotten rid of, there would be any change in our economy or something. So yeah, throw at least one more holiday at me. I won't mind taking it.
We need to find a balance between work and rest. But this doesn't mean I am not trying to tip the scales a little more to the side of more holidays.
