This is the Benguela Gem. It is the largest diamond mining ship in the world and the new flagship of the Namdeb fleet.
I was there when she arrived in Cape Town in 2021 when she has zero mining equipment on her, but she was built new to take those systems.
This year, she was in for her first proper dry-dock in-port and we had some HVAC service work to do on her.
Our first day on site was the 31st of July and though we did not work every single day, this sort of project tends to take up your whole life.
The last day was Tuesday, 23 September. Which was Day 41.
In that time I processed over 1500 photos and wrote 7 detailed engineering reports of our works.
It was pretty good work, though not without its challenges and issues.
I think overall the Project was a success and a profitable one.
We shall see by the end of the year how things go... though I will probably be asking for a post-project report so I can see how we made money and how we lost money and what the balance is.
I am having a regular day today from 7:30 till 16:00 and it feels strange!
