Something that has really begun to annoy me is that GW seems to have forgotten all about my older Space Wolves models!
Let me explain:
When 10th Edition launched in 2023, Games Workshop released Indexes - This replaced all 9th Edition Codexes (Faction Rulebooks). This was because the entire game got new rules and all units needed new datasheets to match the new rules.
So they did something amazing, re-did the 25+ Faction rules and published over 900 Datasheets!
This was amazing!
Then, as they brought out 10th Edition Codexes, this would replace the Index rules for the faction.
Now... a lot of the old guard bemoan the fact that some models or model kits are being "retired" out of the rules. But I understand that GW makes money by making and selling models.
One of the things that causes a grumble is the creation of Primaris Marines... I will cover that in more depth later...
Bottom line is... in order for the hobby to continue, it must sell new stuff. In order for our Local Hobby Store (LHS) to survive, it must sell new models! Not just new armies to new players, but new models to existing players.
Also, old model kit's molds have a lifespan in the factory, so they need to be remade to continue making that kit. This costs a lot of money and if people aren't buying that kit... then why continue making it?!
No model, no rules.
For every unit that they are selling in the store, they make rules for. It is not fair to demand that the company keep updating rules for minis and miniaure kits they don't sell and nobody buys.
So... for those that have these units in their collections, GW designed Legends. A rules set library for benched units. These units will not be allowed at the big competative tournaments, but you can use them in Friendly games, narritive campaigns and events that allow Legends.
Every time a new Codex comes out, some units are moved to Legends... fine. A lot of people moan about it but I am OK. My collection has plenty with the new Space Marines and Space Wolves Codexes that I can still play in tournaments.
However... its been like a month since Space Wolves got their new Codex... and still no Legends!
Where are my Long Fangs, Wolf Scouts, Wolf Guard Pack Leaders, Thunderwolf Characters etc all going to go?!
Right now, on the Warhammer Community website, there is still a Space Wolf Index. But they have not updated the Ledengs Field Manual...
My problem with this is how do I count my Grand Imperial Army if a bunch of my Space Wolves are stuck without proper allocation?
The answer: I will make my own allocations until GW releases one!
This counts for many systems in the hobby... if it does not exist... make it yourself!
Thank you for reading this post!
Cheers!
