I never imagined myself falling into the K-drama trap, but while browsing Netflix, I couldn't help but notice a very good production that, to this day, I don't understand why it isn't as popular as it should be. I've long empathized with people with autism, and in fact, my youngest son was just sent to specialists for a diagnosis, as there's a chance he has autism or ADHD.

But I'm bringing up this topic because I want to recommend a Korean series that very subtly touches on this condition, with a protagonist who masterfully embodies a lawyer born with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Starring actress Park Eun-bin, "Extraordinary Attorney Woo" depicts the daily life of lawyer Woo Young Woo, who is mostly judged for her personality, although that doesn't stop her from being the best at what she does.

Although it focuses heavily on the daily lives of Hanbada's lawyers, we also see significant developments in our protagonist's life. Perhaps not everyone knows much about this topic, but autism is widely misunderstood, and this series slowly teaches you how to deal with a friend or colleague who has this condition.

Woo has a dream relationship with an employee at the buffet where she works. Played by Kang Tae-oh, "Joon-ho" is a sweetheart from the moment he meets our protagonist. Throughout the series, it is shown that this character has knowledge regarding social work with various people, a detail that helps him empathize with Lawyer Woo's life situation. Little by little, we see how Woo learns to love him, who becomes an important part of both the series and the lawyer's life.

Although I think these series tend to exaggerate situations to the point that they make you feel bad. I truly feel that the cruel side of the world they usually show in these types of series can be very evil for people who suffer from a condition like this or similar. But here they show you both the bad side and the good side. Despite the fact that there are people who judge or harm her in some way, Attorney Woo truly has someone who defends her and who teaches her how to deal with things that, although they may seem small, are a true daily challenge, and with which she must learn to have both patience and extensive knowledge on the subject.

My favorite part of the entire series is during a conversation between the protagonist and her father. In this conversation, she's interested in how he deals with her, or used to deal with her, and the best part was his response. He tells her that he's spent part of his life feeling alone and ignored by her, and even though he understands, as a mature person, that she's like that, he knows he can always get her attention with things that interest her. She used this detail in a case where she wanted to gather information about a client with autism.

You can find this series on its original Netflix platform, and while I'm a little annoyed that this story has been paused, I've realized that this streaming site has many other high-quality K-dramas.
