Hello TheAnimeRealm community, I hope you are well full of joy and happiness. I'm new to the community, my name is Steven Rivas, I'm from Venezuela, I'm 32 years old, it's a pleasure to meet you. Today I'm here not only to introduce myself but also to talk about some specific anime that I liked a lot when I was a kid and to share it with you. Apart from video games I like to watch anime and manga I am from the 90s and I am a fan of the nostalgic, I still watch current anime but the classic outweigh the current, not only for its animation but for the story or its development as its characters or main story, that's my point of view. I remember there was a channel on TV that has been changing its name over time, first it was called “Locomotion” and then “Animax” and suddenly changed to Sony if I'm not mistaken, it was years ago when I was in my teens. They used to show anime of that time both in their original language with subtitles and some of them in Latin Spanish audio, but today I will focus on some of them (in fact, I grew up with these anime without knowing that it was called anime hehehe).
Among the anime aired on Locomotion/Animax was this one called Saber Marionnette J. It was first aired in October 1996 in Japan and consisted of 25 episodes. In 2000 the series was acquired and broadcast by Locomotion for Latin America with dubbing done in Mexico from April 2000 until its closure. The plot is set in the distant future, in the 22nd century, and due to overpopulation on Earth, mankind initiates a space colonization project. However, a ship called the Mesopotamia suffers an accident and leaves six men as the only survivors on a planet called Terra II.
Since there are no women on the planet, the inhabitants create humanoid puppets called Saber Marionettes, which possess special circuits capable of developing emotions. The protagonist, Otaru Mamiya, an ordinary young man, discovers and awakens three exceptional puppets: Lime, a Saber Marionette with a virgin circuit, somewhat hyperactive, adolescent and cheerful, similar to a little girl; Cherry, a Saber Marionette with a virgin circuit, with a kind character, calm (but not when she gets angry), intellectual and cultured, in other words, an archetype of the ideal Japanese woman; and Bloodberry, a Saber Marionette very strong in combat, compared to the previous ones, a little more adult-looking. All of them have the ability to feel and express real emotions. Together, they face challenges and fight against the empire of Faust, who seeks to control Terra II with his own advanced puppets.
It is a story that contains action, comedy, adventure, romance, ecchi, mixed harem, science fiction, things of life and emotional moments, with a background about the importance of emotions and humanity. I highly recommend it, this anime has a sequel and it is more dramatic, but in the future I will tell you more about it.
Another anime that I recommend for those who are interested in the classics is Burn Up Excess. It has 13 episodes. It aired in Japan between December 12, 1997 and July 1, 1998. In Latin America, it was broadcasted by “Locomotion” with Latin American Spanish dubbing. A short series but full of action and fun!
For me it is a gem of 90's anime that perfectly captures that mix of unbridled action and lighthearted comedy that many remember fondly. It transports us to a chaotic future where the special police unit, led by the energetic and courageous Rio Kinezono, must face criminals, conspiracies and dangers of all kinds. With her team of eccentric sidekicks like the intelligent Lilica, the fierce Maya (My favorite) and the mysterious Nanvel. The missions are never boring.
What made Burn Up Excess special was its combination of charismatic characters, absurdly funny situations and vibrant animation that encapsulates the spirit of the anime of its time. For those who watched it at the time, remembering the crazy antics of Rio and his crew is like reliving a little piece of childhood or adolescence, a time when the heroes were not only brave, but also quirky and with a great sense of humor. If you ever saw it, it surely made you laugh and perhaps today, remembering it, makes you want to dive back into those adventures, because nostalgia is also a form of joy! It is classified as detective, science fiction, comedy and ecchi.
And finally my favorite, Cowboy Bebop is much more than an anime; it is a masterpiece that marked an entire generation. It transports us to the year 2071, where a group of bounty hunters travel through space aboard the Bebop, seeking to survive in a chaotic and dangerous universe. With the charismatic and lethal Spike Spiegel, the pragmatic Jet Black, the astute Faye Valentine, the technological genius Ed and the unforgettable corgi Ein, the series delivers action, mystery and a captivating melancholy. But beyond its impeccable animation and spectacular fight scenes, what really makes Cowboy Bebop a gem is its incomparable jazz and blues soundtrack, composed by the legendary Yoko Kanno. Each episode is a story in itself, a small piece of film noir mixed with westerns and science fiction.
To remember it is to feel that sweet nostalgia that takes us back to space sunsets, to Spike's philosophical musings, to moments of pure adrenaline and, of course, to the iconic “See you, space cowboy...”
Cowboy Bebop features 26 episodes, each called a “session”. The series originally aired in Japan between 1998 and 1999 and became an instant classic thanks to its mix of action, philosophy and an unforgettable soundtrack. It contains Action, Seinen, Western, Space Opera, Neo-noir, drama and science fiction genres.
I hope you liked the anime I grew up with, this was the entrance to open and enter the world of anime. From there there were more, but I will tell you about them as time goes by. I hope we get along very well and I'm glad to be here to share my tastes and also to see yours in this great site. Take care and I'll see you in another post...
