Today I want to share something quite interesting, for many the adaptation of manga and light novels to anime is very large and not very simple, everything is a protocol, but now in these times they have already seen other alternatives to acquire new adaptations of stories and it is mostly Manhwas. That's right gentlemen and they want to adapt more than 20, they already did with Solo Leveling, The Boxer and The Beginning After the End that last one has had many controversies in everything. But anyway, the real reason why I make this post is for a specific manhwa that is highly recommended and is called Mercenary Enrollment (or Teenage Mercenary, for the more international), I saw this news several months ago and I was very excited but had not been confirmed of an adaptation at that time but was in sight, and until a few weeks ago web portals had already confirmed that if they go all out with this adaptation here I explain a little of what this Manhwa is about.
Mercenary Enrollment, what is this all about? Well, the protagonist of this story is called “Yu Ijin” is a young man who, after surviving a plane crash as a child, is left for dead and ends up in a war-torn country. With no family, no resources and no options, he becomes an elite mercenary before he is 10 years old. At 19, he returns to South Korea after reuniting with his sister and grandfather, determined to live a normal life. But of course... how does a lethal ex-soldier adapt to school life, where guns are rumors and enemies wear uniforms?
The story unfolds on two fronts: Ijin's violent past that haunts him, and his present in a school where bullying, student mafias and family conflicts are the daily bread. It is as if John Wick were reincarnated as a teenager in a school uniform. It combines fights choreographed with surgical precision, but also tries to understand how study groups work, friendships, emotional moments that make you question your emotional stability, teenage drama and school scenes that remind you why you're thankful you finished high school.
I was hooked on this manhwa from the first day, I tried the first ten chapters, the cover caught my attention, and I must say that it lived up to my expectations, it is really exciting. With a narrative that mixes tactical action, emotional drama and teenage conflict, Mercenary Enrollment has managed to hook millions of readers around the world. In fact, it has accumulated over 1.86 billion global views and topped the LINE Manga rankings in Japan during 2023 and 2024.
What is known about the anime? Although technical details are still under lock and key (no animation studio, voice cast or release date has been revealed), the official confirmation is already enough for fans to be counting down the days. The original creator, YC, expressed his gratitude by saying, “The fact that Mercenary Enrollment has made it to an anime adaptation is thanks to the fans who have supported us. I want to share this joy with all of you.” For his part, illustrator Rakyeon commented, “I never imagined that this story would be so beloved. I am deeply grateful to be able to connect with the fans through this new form: animation.”
Why is this adaptation so exciting? - High-impact visuals: The webtoon's combat scenes are made to be animated. Imagine those brutal choreographies with epic music in the background.
- Emotional depth: The anime has the opportunity to further explore Ijin's inner conflict, caught between his violent past and his desire for a normal life.
- Global expansion: This adaptation can bring the story to an even wider audience, as happened with other adapted webtoons such as Tower of God or Solo Leveling.
What's next? For now, we can only wait for more official details. But if one thing is clear, it's that Mercenary Enrollment has everything to become one of the most anticipated anime of next year. So I'm excited to see Ijin Yu dish out justice in style... this time, in full screen.
