This time, my weekend was fun and happy because I spent it with my family. In Venezuela, the weekend starts on Friday, meaning it's Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, while in other countries it's only Saturday and Sunday.
So we started on Friday, when we went to the farm, a place in the countryside where my mom and brother live with their families. It's a place that also serves as a retreat from the city, where we spend vacations and other moments.
Since my brother turned 50 and I had hardly ever been there for his birthdays, this time I said yes, I made up my mind and we went. We arrived as a surprise, because even my mom wasn't expecting us, which was better that way.
At night, we sang “Happy Birthday” to him because he had to go to work the next day, Saturday. Amid laughter and storytelling, we ate the delicious cake my sister-in-law made, which was like the cake in the movie Matilda.
We went from this day to Saturday in the blink of an eye. I feel that when we stay at the farm, the nights are long, which is better because I sleep more. When I wake up, I smell the aroma of coffee, which my mom makes when she wakes up first. I went to get ready, change my clothes, and watch the sunrise, which was coming in strong with the sun's rays, promising a very hot day.
I prepared breakfast: delicious arepas made from ground corn, which I bought and brought with me. We had breakfast on the porch, talking about a little bit of everything.
Oh, we also took our pets with us. They couldn't stay behind, hehe. We had a scare with some of them. I don't know how they did it, but they escaped from the pack. Luckily, we found them, otherwise we'd be crying right now. These escape artists were the morrocoyes, so my brother, even though he hadn't left yet, said to clean the empty pool and leave them there, so we did. They weren't going to escape from there. We put leaves on them and opened the water jet a little.
My nephews and some neighbors were cleaning and found a strange worm and then a little snake. They killed it. Even I was scared.
When it's winter here, it rains, the bush grows, and in the dry summer, it dries up and looks ugly. My brother cleans it up in his spare time.
I walked around the property to see what was there and found one of the avocado trees bearing fruit, the yancin bushes, and the arnica, among others. The chicken coop is ready to welcome the chickens again, which are raised and then sold. I really like them; they grow huge.
My mom got lunch ready, and I started watching some TV, one of those TV series that others would now call retro. But in my opinion, they are still very good, like Walker Rangers of Texas. When lunch was ready, I helped serve and eat. It was very tasty. The meals that mothers prepare are always delicious, even if it's just rice with fried eggs.
I lay down for a while to rest, and when I woke up, I remembered that the sunsets from there are very beautiful, but I almost missed it because I slept so long. Still, I took some pictures, and after this photo session, I went to take a shower because it was my turn to prepare dinner.
Dinner was corn dough for cachapas, which my sister-in-law gave me. They had had it since Friday, but if you keep it in the freezer, it stays good, so we prepared and ate cachapas with cheese and blood sausage, a very traditional and tasty dish. We only had tonight left, since we were going home the next day, Sunday.
Sunday arrived, the day we were to return home, but first, while we waited for the car I had hired from a family friend, I packed everything, took a shower, and with my mom, we started to prepare breakfast. Once it was ready, I called my children to pack their bags. It's better to have everything ready than to go out and pack when the car arrives, so you don't forget anything.
After breakfast, my sister-in-law gave me some things: bananas and squash, which we really like. I called the friend with the car, and he told me he was on his way to pick us up. I went to pick some oregano sprigs from the little plant.
When they arrived to pick us up, we said goodbye and left. I don't know when we'll return to the farm, but I hope it won't be too long.
And that was my weekend, peaceful, in touch with nature, and most importantly, with my family.
