Since the three of us were left alone, my children and I are a small family, which I care for and protect from everything. We are there for each other in good times and bad, we laugh, we cry, we go out together, all three of us. So once again we went out for a walk, to a place in my city called Paseo Orinoco, because that is where our father river, the Orinoco River, is located.

Right now, it is marking a new milestone in the history of the city, as well as Venezuela and perhaps the world. So many things are said about this river, between myths and legends, one of the most famous being that within the waters of the river, under a large rock, lives a seven-headed snake. We didn't go to see it, but we did go to see the immense flooding of the river, which has happened several times since I can remember. The penultimate one was in 2018, which I didn't go to see, but this year the flooding exceeded the previous one, reaching 18.9 meters above sea level.

When we went on Saturday, we could see that in some parts of the boardwalk, the river was already coming out of the drains, which are small holes. In previous years, the Orinoco Fair was held this month, but this year it was suspended due to the flooding of the river, which has been rising since April. All of this was also brought on by the rains, as winter also came early and continues, because it rains a lot.

There will be no fair as such, but there is the fish market, where many fishermen in their boats use cast nets to catch fish, the most sought-after being bocachico and sapoara, which is why the fair used to be called the SAPOARA FAIR. So, as we walked, we marveled at the river, with an incredible force never seen before, at least by me. It is impressive how it has risen, because in the summer you can see the beach, which you can walk on to reach the shore, but right now you can't see any of that.

The area around the square, which is the central part of El Mirador, is now off-limits because the river has broken through the barricade of cement bags, where days ago many people were walking and children were swimming.

Even my dog, who accompanied us, enjoyed this walk, because he is also part of the family. He caused quite a sensation, and many people took pictures with him. He behaved very well and did not relieve himself, but we did bring him water. In the park, he played with the dirt, which he cannot do at home, so he took advantage of the opportunity.

The famous MIDDLE STONE, also known as Oriconometro because it is the guide for the rise and fall of the river. You can barely see the white tower, and around it there are whirlpools. It is said that the seven-headed snake is under this stone. We almost reached the small boat port, where the stairs are no longer visible and lead up to the top to pick up or drop off passengers to go to the other side of the river to Ciudad Orinoco, which used to be called Soledad.

To end this little outing, we ate some delicious waffles, sitting down, taking a doggy break, then we went to the bus stop to take a bus that could take us and the dog, just like when we left home. I love going out for walks with my family, my children, and now Howzer, my doggy grandson, who also enjoys it.
