Author: @hadley4 Curator: @solumviz  🐇 Zappity & 🐶 Xolobis: A Slimy Hug of Friendship > From the very beginning, my goal was to capture the cartoonish essence of the scene. I started with a dynamic sketch, playing with the interaction between the two: Zappity trying to stay "cool," and Xolobis getting too close—tongue out and ready to drench him in slobber. The baseline sketch was key to balancing tenderness and comedy, which was reinforced by Zappity’s irritated look. These days I've been working in grayscale first to ensure the shapes, shadows, and volume conveyed the relationship between the characters. I managed to avoid exaggerating the contrast or overusing dark tones, while still giving each character its own visual prominence. When applying color, I used Hard Light and Multiply blending modes to generate the colors for each character. As you know, this lets me quickly add color without altering the grayscale work. Even so, I still had to go back and adjust the tones using Soft Light and Overlay modes—and of course, paint normally to build the textures I wanted or... This artwork depicts Ermo tying up and strangling Zappity with his tail, and Zappity appears to be struggling to free himself. So, to free himself, Zappity uses his electric powers. I have seen some fan art of Ermy long before but it’s was few days ago that I saw the post that revealed this creature so I thought I should draw Ermy time. I really liked this creature because it’s just toooo cute. Zingu and Ermy are the cutest ^^ For this painting, first I drew Ermy as it’s standing and is looking at us. I had no idea how the setting should be like so I decided to color the creature and let the background decision for later. I continued coloring and shading the character and then I decided to add fur so it would look more realistic. I used the hair brush I usually use for drawing the hair, for drawing the fur on the tail and like the result but it didn’t look good on the other parts of its body so I looked through my other brushes and found a fur brush and used it to apply fur on its body... I focused on his pose and expression, trying to capture the contrast between his stained hands and his calm demeanor. This stage was essential to establish the storytelling behind the design. Once I had the sketch, I moved to the line art, refining the details and sharpening the silhouette. Here I paid special attention to the tattered edges of his clothing and the distinct shape of his hair. Clean lines helped bring clarity and strength to the figure. Coloring was the next stage, and I chose a palette that balanced warm earthy tones with the coolness of his blue hair. This combination highlighted both the west... For the sketch, I drew a man face and then drew the features like the long hair and a cool outfit. I changed the outfit a little because I didn’t want it to look exactly the same. After I fished the sketch, I went on coloring the skin first. I used darker tones for painting the character. After shading and highlighting the skin, I went on coloring the other features.
