In today's new generation it feels like every other work has turned into a business. I personally feel that people no longer has the will power to do any work out of passion or love because everyone is now after profit. People no longer has the heart of helping others because it got replaced by the desire to make money. Everything now depends on the money or benefits, if there's nothing in return then people won't even look at you.
Whether it’s schools, hospitals or any kind of basic services most of these now have only one goal and that is profit. So I asked myself how how did we get here? Or it always has been like this? But instead of questioning these kind of things I think we should question ourselves that how can we return to the time when people genuinely cared for others and they loved their work and not just to get rich.
If we look around then we can notice that hospital has become one of the most business-centered place. It was once a place for care and healing but now they charge extremely high fees for treatment and medicine. Not everyone can afford good treatment in these hospitals, so it became hard for poor people. The hospitals do not focus on saving lives anymore all they do is discovering new ways to take more from each patient.
The same thing goes for education system, before institution were built to educate and inspire young minds but today you won't learn anything from by joining classes as it has turned into profit-making organizations. You can only learn something if you are paying expensive amount that only rich people can afford otherwise no one else is getting the quality schooling. So, I guess it started from here people's mindset began to change and that's how they see their jobs as well, always trying to find ways to get rich or getting a job without proper qualification through money.
I believe the main reason for this kind of mentality is that the growing importance of money in society. Including my parents I have seen others teaching their kids at a young age that success means wealth and not happiness. Parents in my country would often force their children to pick professions that they don't even like but because they will get paid well, so they must do these work. These children can't deny it even though it doesn't match their interests or talents but still manages to do it because they are afraid of detachment from their parents.
Take my friend Jin for example he was very fond of art but he was forced to study science for engineering because with qualifications he can get a qualified job and these jobs are seen as more valuable than any other jobs. Other professions has no value in the society, if he had chosen art then he won't be getting any family support and whoever would hear about it would start mocking him instead. So he had no choice but to accept something that he never wanted, he left his happiness. Over time, this type of situations has now created a world where only a few would work for passion, and the others only works for good amount of salary.
However, let's not lose hope and I think there are still ways back to a more genuine and passionate society. First of all, we must change our way of thinking like the way we define success and our success should be measured by how much how happy they are doing what they love and not by the amount of money someone earns. I also have seen that people who tends to follow their passions they have done better work and it has benefited many people in the long run.
Secondly, government should take a big step and create some rules or systems which would reward creativity and for the services to humanity. The teachers at education institute, the nurses at the hospital, the social workers all of them do not get paid enough as it's very little. So their pay should be increased then I believe more people will be encouraged to take these roles out of genuine interest. Because when you're paid fairly everything feels nice and runs a good mood. People won't be feeling forced to choose high-paying and soulless careers anymore.
Thirdly as education plays an important role in life. From the beginning of school life it should be compulsory to teach students how to live a meaningful life and not only how to earn money. There should be some extra classes about ethics and empathy as we have seen many adults lacks these things in their life. There should be a community service to teach the young people about the differences of life and our life doesn't revolve around wealth. So once the children will start learn that joy and kindness are as important as success, then they will definitely have the mindset we desire which they will also carry into their future careers.
In my personal opinion, even though the world of today is seemed to be dominated by business-minded people, but if we want the change then we can change it anytime and not stay that way. Rewarding passion over profit is the best way to change everything. So, yeah this is the only way to fix everything.
