Hello manhwa lovers, I am back with another master piece. The manhwa is "Starting Over With the Dead You," genre is psychological thriller, romance, Josei, yandere. I have heard about this manhwa a lot and I decided to give it a chance and here am I today with you guys reviwing this wonderful manhwa. If you're into yandere type of stories and psychological then this is one of the best Manhwa I have read so far.
The story beings with Iru Kim, when she was a kid her mother used to work as a maid, it was the largest house in their neighborhood. An old grandma lived there by herself and his grandson Hayul Gwon. Both Iru and Hayul met each other in the hallway and at the first glance Hayul took interest in Iru.
Hayul wanted to play with her and at beginning he used to treat her nicely and gave her many gifts but sometimes he used to get mad at her and tear apart the dolls. He was way too obsessed with Iru. This made Iru uncomfortable, she could not bear it anymore so she stopped visiting the house.
One day Hayul met Iru on the street and he threatened her to come back and play with him otherwise he will frame Iru's mother for thefting. This made Iru feel terrified, she kept living her life in fear and wished Hayul to disappear from her life.
Suddenly after some time he died. Back in the present Iru at her university, there she found her classmates discussing about a new guy coming back to the class and his name is Ha-im Yu.
Later on when she was walking to the stairs and saw a guy and felt shocked as he looked similar to Hayul, but he was dead 13 years. She found out his name is Ha-im and still feels uneasy around him because he looks similar.
On the other hand there's another guy called Ji-an who is a friend to Iru since school life and he suddenly came back. He was the crush of Iru but he rejected her. Meanwhile there was a rumor that Iru is cursed and whoever liked Iru in the school life they would face death or consequences for showing interest in her.
The similar events started to happen again in the present time when another guy of her class tried to flirt with her. This made Iru feeling disturbed as she fears this is the curse of Hayul.
To be honest I love to read psychological thriller manhwa's, every chapter will leave you with intriguing thoughts. Like who is the real culprit and mind blowing twists after twist.
I doubt both male leads because they are suspicious. Like they don't seem that naive as they pretend to be. I am not going to give any kind of spoiler.
The female lead actually represents the way a normal human being would react. She's totally a genuine character which you can look upto. Her decisions are not that wise but I feel that what makes the story more involved. I feel the other characters are also playing important role for the plot. The presentation of each character is really good.
The art style is average, it's not the best. It's my personal opinion, people might like it but I actually don't. The turn off for me was the colorings it felt a bit odd. I would like it more if they could add some details to the art.
It seems like they have done it in a hurry. But most of the the male leads are looking incredible. I think they look very different from other art styles. At least their face does not remind me of any other manhwa which is a good thing. But to be honest it's really hard to make different faces like at some points they do all look a bit similar but the artists always tries their best to make it look different in various ways.
When I was reading the manhwa I got confused about the education level of Iru. At first I thought she's studying in college then somewhere it's written that she's going to her school, later I saw it's written university.
I think the translator got confused and did some mistakes, or maybe the education system in Korea is different. Anyway, at last when she went for an interview I found she studies in a university. She's 23 years old so I can't expect her to be in a school.
Korean's even has different terms of calling older and younger people and I have learned all of these through watching K-drama and reading manhwa. Anyway, I really love their culture and in this manhwa they will explain each an every term for you so you won't get confused.
I really don't prefer any kind of stalking in real life, but if it's in Manhwa or anime it seems nice to me. I don't know why but I like yandere a lot. Maybe I am one of them haha. I really like the obsession of a male lead. Like someone who is a red flag but is loyal to his lover.
I don't know who is the real villain in Iru's story yet but I am already shipping her with Ha-im. Even if it's the same guy from her past I would want him to change himself for Iru and them having a happy ending together.
I have read and watched much more extreme stuff, so this is a basic thing for me. If you're not into this type of stories then it's better to avoid this manhwa. I am not sure who she will end up with, will she fall in love with her stalker? Or it will be someone better? Both male leads are suspicious so I can't tell which one is the better option.
Well, there are 55 chapters till now which is the series final chapter but still the status says it's on-going which means maybe there will be a second season or it's already updating. Till chapter 51 it's free to read and you have to wait patiently for other chapters to be free soon. I prefer to read from webtoon because it's legal and the author deserves some support from us.
