"True Beauty" is a is a manhwa written and illustrated by Yaongyi. The genre is romance-comedy and drama. The story begins with our protagonist who's name is Jugyeong who's a middle school student. She's often bullied because of her looks which people considers ugly even her family members calls her ugly. She has one brother and one sister and both of them has no respect for her because they consider her as a ugly person with no personality. To hide her bare face she tries to find solution to make herself look better. She posted about her problem in a blog where people were suggesting her to start doing make up because many people does make up and they look completely different with makeup which is a better result to cope up with insecurities. She tried to follow the makeup tutorials which ended in a bad way.

She could barely do the right makeup and ended up making herself humiliated because of the wrong makeup. Jugyeong was frustrated and sad because she thought makeup made her look more ugly. But the truth was that she didn't know how to do the right makeup. But as time passed she started to read makeup related magazines and follow the top trending tutorials and she had spent her entire last winter vacation of middle school practicing makeup. Then she joined a new high school where she presented herself wearing makeup. She looked completely different than how she used to look before. Everyone in the class was mesmerized by her beauty as she's a goddess. She quickly got fame by mastering the art of makeup via online tutorials. Her excellent make-up skills made her look more pretty and she continues to hide her bare face in front others by keeping it as a secret.

She's a huge comic book fan, she visits the library as usual with bare face and there she encountered a boy who's name is Suho Lee. It was a cold interaction because it was their first meet and Suho Lee seemed to be more interested in protecting the book he had picked. Jugyeong was pissed about it because he was not vining at all. Later Jugyeong's friend from school suggested that she should learn Japanese from the guy in their school who is very good at Japanese and as Jugyeong is trying to learn it then it will be easier for her. Her friend set up a group study and when Jugyeong came she saw that it's the same guy who was at the library. To her shock she realized he couldn't recognize her at all. But after a while by some hints Suho recognized her and Jugyeong requested him that she would do anything for him but he must not reveal her secret about hiding her identity.

Suho took the advantage and he decided to make her do things for him, such as bringing foods or suggesting comics and all. In a way Suho was having fun and Jugyeong was desperate to keep her secret hidden. On the other hand a girl called Sunjin Kang was getting jealous by seeing Suho and Jugyeong together. Sunjin was seeing Jugyeong in a lower standard and she didn't find her beautiful but she wanted to pretend to be her friend. In real she wanted to keep her away from Suho so she decided to befriend Jugyeong. As our protagonist is naive she felt lucky to be Sunjin's friend but Sunjin was plotting something big against her. Sunjin put up a blind date for Jugyeong but it was with a play boy but she was unaware of it because the guy in front of her was present like a gentleman.....

If you remove the title, the comic itself is pretty good because the title is kind of misleading. To be honest I like the fact that how makeup started as a way for our female protagonist to fit in and it became a shield for her. Like she got many opportunities because of her talent for makeup. As she was bullied before because of her bare face means natural look so for that reason her self esteem is super low. Well, the character growth is very slow but it is understandable because that's more realistic. I liked her transition she has made her weakness as her super power. I have seen people hating on her character but she's the real one, because it's never easy to change our mindset and start believing in that we are beautiful the way we are. It takes lots of time to evolve ourselves into a better person with great thoughts.

If you ask me which character i disliked the most then I will say it's Sunjin, even though she is suffering in her life but that does not give her the right to do bad with others. Just because you are living in hell doesn't mean you have to treat others as lowly. Anyway, it was hard to choose one of the boys. The love triangle was hitting really hard. I like both male character and both of them are so attractive! Like the artist has done a great job in making them. Both felt like a perfect man for Jugyeong. I feel she deserves both of them lol. But that can't happen she's eventually gonna choose one and the other one is going to get heart broken.

The art style is pretty but not very realistic. Well, I wish that there was more focus on mental health and self image than just romance. I would love to see if there was some self-love. There are 257 chapters in total and it's completed so feel free to read it! You don't have to wait for the new chapters. I have finished it and also watched the K-drama version and I truly like both of them. I hope you guys will have fun to read this manhwa as much as I did.

Como nuestra protagonista es ingenua se sintió afortunada de ser amiga de Sunjin pero Sunjin estaba tramando algo grande contra ella. Sunjin le puso una cita a ciegas a Jugyeong pero era con un play boy pero ella no se dio cuenta porque el chico delante de ella estaba presente como un caballero.....

Si quitas el título, el cómic en sí es bastante bueno porque el título es un poco engañoso. Para ser sincera, me gusta el hecho de que el maquillaje empezara como una forma de encajar para nuestra protagonista femenina y se convirtiera en un escudo para ella. Tuvo muchas oportunidades gracias a su talento para el maquillaje. Como antes la acosaban por su cara desnuda y su aspecto natural, su autoestima es muy baja. Bueno, el crecimiento del personaje es muy lento pero es comprensible porque es más realista. Me ha gustado su transición, ha hecho de su debilidad su superpoder. He visto que la gente odia su personaje, pero ella es la auténtica, porque nunca es fácil cambiar de mentalidad y empezar a creer que somos bellos tal y como somos. Hace falta mucho tiempo para convertirnos en mejores personas con grandes pensamientos.

Si me preguntan qué personaje me desagradó más entonces diré que es Sunjin, aunque está sufriendo en su vida pero eso no le da derecho a hacer el mal con los demás. Solo porque estés viviendo en el infierno no significa que tengas que tratar a los demás como inferiores. En fin, fue difícil elegir a uno de los chicos. El triángulo amoroso pegaba muy fuerte. Me gustan los dos personajes masculinos y ambos son muy atractivos. Como si el artista hubiera hecho un gran trabajo al crearlos. Ambos me parecieron el hombre perfecto para Jugyeong. Siento que ella se merece a ambos. Pero eso no puede pasar ella eventualmente va a escoger a uno y al otro le van a romper el corazón.

El estilo artístico es bonito pero no muy realista. Me gustaría que se centrara más en la salud mental y la imagen personal que en el romance. Me encantaría que hubiera algo de amor propio.
