Wassily Kandinsky came for a short visit last night. There I was at my art table minding my own business when "POOF!" he was here. We talked for a few minutes as I tried to see what had brought him here and I noticed he kept looking at my paints.
So.... I asked him if he'd consider making a little piece of art for me while he was already here and he seemed delighted to get his hands on my marker and paints.
First he made some random squiggles. I asked him if I could take a photo before he put paint on it and he let me. I didn't say it was for my blog, because I knew he wouldn't know what that was. He did seem to be fascinated with my phone, where I could take photos and see them instantly. He then carried on with his little creation, just choosing a few colors from some bottles of paint at the corner of my workspace that I had not put away before.
You can see above what he made. I did expect it to have some straight lines in it too and there was a ruler right there in a paint brush cup, but he didn't choose to do that. I think he knew he didn't have much time here, but was still compelled to finish something.
I didn't complain about it not being quiet as organized as his older pieces because, well, you know, he's been dead 80 years ! A little out of practice I'm thinking.
After he left, I took the leftover paint he squeezed out and made this piece of collage paper to use later. He probably wouldn't have considered wasting any paint in his previous time, but he seemed to be fading a little by the time the piece was done.
I thanked him for the fun little piece of art he made me and told him he should come back sometime. I promised him I wouldn't ask him to make art for me every time, but he really seemed to enjoy it, so I bet he wouldn't mind. I actually think it was all the art supplies that were concentrated in one spot that brought him here to begin with, but I'm really just guessing on that.
