BeerSaturday is at week 226 and I have some tropical beers to share!

I became a beer blogger because of the years I have spent brewing for myself, the breweries I work with now on their technology and marketing, and the decades spent imbibing combine for the self-decreed title of the #Blockchain #Beerologist.
In a rare turn of events, I missed week 225 with the blog but I can assure you it was because there was too much fun going on, and that included beers. Here are a few of them for week 226.
Pub of the Week!
The Pint of the Week is transforming into the Pub of the Week as there were too many social pints of the week while on vacation. The first one is pretty fitting too as it seems they are building Hive pubs in international airports in preparation for thousands of new travellers when $Hive hits $10! Draft & Craft has to be the best way to start your vacation.
Flavourless Piss
The only downside we anticipated on our upcoming epic Mexican adventure was the low probability of good beer. Light watery lagers are the norm down here and it is wise to switch from quality either to quantity, or rum. The decree was made that we would not drink Corona, Dos Equis or Tecate while on the Yucatan peninsula.
That oath turned out to be a bit too hard to honour starting right at our first bar while travelling. Nothing but those options, it was too early for rum, and we were in the market to chug a thirstbeer. A couple Tecates in Playa Del Carmen and we were on the ferry to Cozumel.
Getting Better
It had been a while since I have enjoyed a Negra Modelo as it was my go-to down south when everyone was drinking Corona. After a couple Tecates, the slightly higher ABV and increased malt with this dark beer was definitely better. Sharing a beer quest with someone who is regularly featured as the guest beer of the week is pretty cool. Cheap good beer is just as awesome.
This was part of a haul we took from a small beverage shop, blocks from the tourist area as we made a new friend behind the counter. Hitting Cozumel Island and dragging our luggage to our straw-roofed hut is thirsty work!
Mexican IPA!
We had heard rumours that there was as craft brewery on Cozumel which brewed IPA. After our scuba diving adventure, imagine how happy we were to discover it was on the same small block as the dive shop! Cervesaria Punta Sur https://www.cerveceriapuntasur.com/ is that place and we were pleased to find these hazy, cool Citra Smash APAs. My ear was aching after the dive and a little good, hoppy local beer would put out that fire. Yummy and smooth and definitely a step up from the regional watery lagers. The Empanadas made the visit even better and I am longing to be back there right now.
Non-Beer of the Week
I am definitely a beer lover. In addition to that, I do love a good scotch, bourbon, whisky of any sort, and am not adverse to many other hard liquors. Tequila on the other hand, I have had an averse relationship with. I can remember it being a push off the drunken cliff as a college kid. Other times, I have enjoyed an expensive tequila only to barf it back up later. What gives.
Well, these little beverages were the litmus test to determine whether I was in fact intolerant to tequila, or my experience was tainted. I remember this visit to yet another craft brewery (I may get to that next week) and this monumental end of the night. As loaded as you might imagine, this could have gone as badly as in decades past. We sipped these little skull glasses respectfully and ignored the sale and citrus. Turns out I am alright with tequila! Just have to sip it like a scotch beside a camp fire!
