Heute hat Bitcoin einen neuen Meilenstein erreicht und zwar wurde der 18 millionste Bitcoin generiert. Das heißt, dass in Zukunft nur noch 3 Millionen Bitcoin (14,2%) gemined werden, bis die endgültige Obergrenze von 21 Millionen im nächsten Jahrhundert (ca. 2140) erreicht wird.
In Wirklichkeit sind weniger als 18 Millionen Bitcoin in Umlauf, da bereits einige Millionen Coins verloren gegangen sind oder "geburned" wurden. Vor allem Coins aus der Anfangszeit, wo man noch sorgloser mit den wertvollen Coins umgegangen ist.
