🐥 Nur echt mit dem Specht │ Only real with the woodpecker 🐦

Was wäre unser Spessart ohne die zahlreichen Spechte. Sie sind ein Markenzeichen unserer Region. Der Name Spessart wurde von den Spechten abgeleitet und bedeutet so viele wie Spechtswald. Obwohl die Namensgebung über tausend Jahre zurück reicht, ist der Specht immer noch zahlreich vertreten. An unserer Futterstelle sind Buntspechte und Mittelspechte regelmäßige Gäste. Selbst der große Grünspecht ist oft zu beobachten, wenn er auf den Grasflächen nach Insekten sucht. An die Futterstelle wagt er sich nicht. Die ist ihm anscheinend nicht geheuer. Einzig den Schwarzspecht konnte ich bisher noch nicht im Siedlungsbereich beobachten. Er ist sehr scheu und lebt ausschließlich im Wald.

What would our Spessart be without the numerous woodpeckers. They are a trademark of our region. The name Spessart was derived from the woodpeckers and means as many as Spechtswald. Although the name goes back over a thousand years, the woodpecker is still numerous. At our feeding place, spotted woodpeckers and middle woodpeckers are regular guests. Even the great green woodpecker can often be seen looking for insects on the grass. He does not dare to go to the feeding place. Apparently he is not comfortable with that. Only the black woodpecker I could not observe so far yet in the settlement area. It is very shy and lives exclusively in the forest.

Es ist immer wieder sehr interessant, wie der Buntspecht an seiner Spechtschmiede arbeitet. Dabei nutzt der Specht vorhandene Spalten oder hämmert solche in das Holz. Dort klemmt er Kiefern-, Fichtenzapfen oder Nüsse ein, um diese mit dem Schnabel zu bearbeiten. Er hämmert so lange auf die harte Schale ein bis er an die Samen oder Früchte gelangt. Nachfolgend habe ich den Specht noch gefilmt wie er unermüdlich an der Spechtschmiede einen Fichtenzapfen bearbeitet.

It is always very interesting how the great spotted woodpecker works on his woodpecker forge. The woodpecker uses existing gaps or hammers them into the wood. There it clamps pine cones, spruce cones or nuts in order to work them with its beak. It hammers on the hard skin until it reaches the seeds or fruits. In the following I filmed the woodpecker working tirelessly on a spruce cone at the woodpecker forge.

Bei so einem kulturellen Bezug zu den Spechten liegt es nahe, dass die Brauerei in Kreuzwertheim den Namen Spessart Brauerei trägt. Bier wird dort seit 1809 gebraut. Das Ganze verbunden mit dem Leitspruch, "Nur echt mit dem Specht". So ist auch der Specht ein Markenzeichen für Bier aus dem Spessart.

With such a cultural reference to the woodpeckers it is obvious that the brewery in Kreuzwertheim bears the name Spessart Brewery. Beer has been brewed there since 1809. The whole thing connected with the motto, "Only genuine with the woodpecker". So the woodpecker is also a trademark for beer from the Spessart.
