¡Hola, amigos de Cuba! ¿Cómo se encuentran en esta tarde de septiembre? Aquí en donde vivo todo está ligeramente soleado, y es un sábado más que perfecto para hacer nada (como todos, básicamente). Hoy he venido a compartir con ustedes una de las actividades de mi vida que me hacen levantarme de la cama en estos días dedicados al ocio: la jardinería.

Here where I live everything is slightly sunny, and it's a more than perfect Saturday to do nothing (like everyone else, basically). Today I've come to share with you one of the activities in my life that gets me out of bed on these days dedicated to leisure: gardening.
Hoy fue una tarde provechosa de recoger la cosecha de una de mis matas de plátano (a las que también se le llama en otros sitios platanera, banano), a la que cuido desde hace alrededor de un año. Es uno de los cultivos de los que más orgulloso me siento, debo admitir, y lo pueden apreciar en las fotografías que tomamos hace unas horas. Uno de mis vecinos me ayudó también en la tarea, el mérito no es sólo mío; ya que aún estoy aprendiendo a mantener un buen jardín.
>Today was a profitable afternoon of harvesting one of my banana plants (also known elsewhere as platanera, banano), which I have been taking care of for about a year now. It is one of the crops I am most proud of, I must admit, and you can see it in the pictures we took a few hours ago. One of my neighbors also helped me in the task, the merit is not only mine; since I am still learning how to maintain a good garden.
Otra de las muchas plantas que ya dio frutos para aprovechar fue la de calabaza- que también puede que conozcan como chilacayote, o chompa, o arota- y, encima, ha crecido tanto que cubre casi todo el espacio que tengo destinado como patio. Mi novia y yo decidimos regalar una de las dos que recogimos a los señores de la casa de al lado para ayudar, que es por lo que se vive. El resto presiento que va a ser parte de la cena.
>Another of the many plants that has already borne fruit to take advantage of was the squash - which you may also know as chilacayote, or chompa, or arota - and, on top of that, it has grown so much that it covers almost all the space I have set aside as a patio. My girlfriend and I decided to give away one of the two we picked to the people next door to help out, which is what we live for. The rest I have a feeling are going to be part of dinner.
Pero no sólo cultivo en casa estas viandas. A lo que más empeño le pongo es a la atención con mi limonero, que aún no ha crecido lo suficiente. Y a la planta de guayaba, que todavía no nos da frutas. Además de que recientemente he descubierto que tengo otra bananera creciendo en el fondo del patio, y no puedo esperar a que haya crecido completamente.
>But I don't only grow these vegetables at home. What I do most is to pay attention to my lemon tree, which has not yet grown enough. And the guava plant, which still doesn't give us any fruit. Plus I recently discovered that I have another banana tree growing in the back of the yard, and I can't wait for it to be fully grown.
Adjunto un montón de fotos, como ya les dije. Y, bueno, ¿qué les parece mi patio? No es tan grande como me gustaría, pero aún así es para mí el espacio más valioso de toda mi casa. Aunque planeo mostrárselo en otra ocasión, también tengo un pequeño espacio para hacer mis ejercicios desde casa cuando tenga algo de tiempo libre y un estante con algunas flores para hacer el lugar más bonito. Les quería comentar aparte que tengo muchos otros planes para mejorar el trabajo en el huerto. Porque pensé en comprarme algunos instrumentos de jardinería, y en destinar uno de estos fines de semana de este mes para hacerle un par de reformas por comodidad. Y comenzar a plantar algunos otros cultivos como el tomate, que es mi vegetal favorito, y la fruta bomba. De más está decir que acepto todas las sugerencias y consejos que me puedan ofrecer para mejorar mis técnicas de jardinería y aprender mucho más.

Although I plan to show it to you another time, I also have a small space to do my exercises from home when I have some free time and a shelf with some flowers to make the place prettier. Because I thought about buying some gardening tools, and allocating one of these weekends this month to do a couple of renovations for convenience. And start planting some other crops like tomatoes, which is my favorite vegetable, and fruit bombs. Needless to say, I welcome any suggestions and advice you can offer me to improve my gardening techniques and learn a lot more.
