Potamarcha congener is a type of Odonata flying insect that is mostly found in the Bukit Rata valley.
Potamarcha congener is also known as the yellow-tailed ashy skimmer, common chaser, or swampwatcher.
The Bukit Rata valley has a lot of marshes and small creeks, which allows this species to thrive.
Some time ago, I caught a female Potamarcha congener there. I shot it with my phone camera and an external macro lens from various angles.
Except for their body color, there may not be much difference between female and male dragonflies at first glance.
The female dragonfly has a yellow nose, green compound eyes with brown above, an orange abdomen, and translucent black wings.
Female Potamarcha congener
In addition, I had the opportunity to capture a male Potamarcha congener. It's only that it flew away so quickly that I only got one shot.
Male Potamarcha congener
The male dragonfly's traits include a pale gray thorax, a yellow abdomen, and prominent black segments. Other organs, including the eyes, nose, and wings, do not differ much between men and females.
