Greetings to the entire Open Mic community. In this week #262, we explore the theme: "Holy Week." I am pleased to share my trumpet performance of "This Is the Christ," a beautiful hymn composed by Michael Finlinson Moody and James E. Faust. It is a testimony to Christ and narrates some events from his incomparable life. This musical piece is in G Major, a 4/4 time signature with a medium vocal range and a melodic contour with soft phrases and sustained notes in the chorus to reaffirm the message. One of my favorite arrangements is the one by the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square under the direction of Mack Wilberg. I consider it an ideal hymn for this time, and it has a solemn character that invites reflection. I remember, as a missionary for the Church, listening to this melody every morning, both in English and Spanish.

Un cordial saludo a toda la comunidad de Open Mic. En esta semana #262, exploramos la temática: "Holy Week". Tengo el agrado de compartir mi interpretación con la trompeta de «This Is the Christ», un hermoso himno compuesto por Michael Finlinson Moody y James E. Faust. Es un testimonio de Cristo y que narra algunos acontecimientos de su vida incomparable. Esta pieza musical se encuentra en G Mayor, un compás 4/4 con un rango vocal intermedio y un contorno melódico con frases suaves y notas sostenidas en el coro para reafirmar el mensaje. De mis arreglos favoritos está el del Coro del Tabernáculo de la Manzana del Templo bajo la dirección de Mack Wilberg. Considero que es un himno ideal para esta época, y que tiene un carácter solemne que te invita a la reflexión. Recuerdo que, siendo misionero de la Iglesia, escuchaba esta melodía todos los días por la mañana, tanto en inglés como en español.

For many, Holy Week means a time of rest, celebration, and vacation; for me, it's a reminder of God's love for humanity. I am grateful for his life, his teachings, his healing power, and his endless sacrifice. Every Sunday I attend church and have the opportunity to remember and worship him in both word and action. During Easter, I love watching movies, reading the Bible, and listening to inspirational messages. I also love listening to traditional hymns, choral and classical music like Handel's "Messiah," and contemporary works, gospel, Christian pop, and praise songs by Hillsong, Chris Tomlin, and Maverick City Music. I think it would be impossible to quantify how many songs have been written about him—probably millions. After all that has been said about him, written, and composed, I testify that he lives. He has risen and represents the hope for a better world. I sincerely hope that this holy week goes well for you.

La Semana Santa para muchos significa un tiempo de descanso, de fiesta y de vacaciones; para mí es un recordatorio del amor que siente Dios por la humanidad. Siento gratitud por su vida, sus enseñanzas, su poder sanador y su sacrificio infinito. Cada domingo asisto a la Iglesia y tengo la oportunidad de recordarle y adorarle tanto en palabra como en acciones. En la Pascua me encanta observar películas, leer la biblia y escuchar mensajes inspiradores. También me encanta escuchar himnos tradicionales, música coral y clásica como el “El Mesías” de Handel, y obras contemporáneas, gospel, pop cristiano y de alabanza de Hillsong, Chris Tomlin o Maverick City Music. Yo creo que sería imposible cuantificar cuántas canciones se han hecho sobre él, probablemente millones. Después de todas las cosas que se han dicho de Él, que se han escrito y se han compuesto, yo testifico que Él vive. Él ha resucitado y representa la esperanza de un mundo mejor. Espero que de todo corazón les vaya excelente en esta semana sagrada.

This Is the Christ

They heard a voice, a voice so mild. It pierced them through and made their souls to quake. They saw Him come, a man in white, The Savior, who had suffered for their sake. They felt the wounds in hands and side, And each could testify: This is the Christ.

This is the Christ, the holy Son of God— Our Savior, Lord, Redeemer of mankind. This is the Christ, the Healer of our souls, Who ransomed us with love divine.

I read His words, the words He prayed While bearing sorrow in Gethsemane. I feel His love, the price He paid. How many drops of blood were spilled for me? With Saints of old in joyful cry I too can testify: This is the Christ.

This is the Christ, the holy Son of God— Our Savior, Lord, Redeemer of mankind. This is the Christ, the Healer of our souls, Who ransomed us with love divine.
