Dunlins in the shallow water

On one of my photography trips in spring this year I was able to take several pictures of dunlins enjoying the shallow water at a gravel pit near my homeplace. They were looking for food and rest there before the flew further north. I layed down on the sand of the gravel pit and I still remember that I got pretty dirty since the sand was also a bit wet and I forgot my mat in my car or better say was too lazy to go back and take it from the car. But since the spot with water are a lot lower in Level it is a bit difficult to get in the same level as the birds and the angle is not perfect.

But I am happy that I found them because they are not an everyday species here near Linz. In German they are called "Alpenstrandläufer" eventhough they are only here during the bird migration their Name is derived from the Alps Mountains in Middle Europe. They are only here a very short time during the rest of the year (winter) they are usually at the northern coasts of the mediterranean sea in Africa or in summer in Great Britain, Iceland and Norway.
