Friends of the Feathered Friends community. It's been a while since I last photographed birds, as they are rare where I live. Since I had a lovely experience with some doves, I decided to publish about your beautiful community. I hope you enjoy the photographs. Yesterday, I was walking through Plaza Alsina in Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, and there I noticed that the doves are the queens. Children pamper them, feed them, and they enjoy watching people watch and play with them.
Amigos de la comunidad Amigos Emplumados. Tenía tiempo que no fotografiaba, aves, pues donde vivo, son pocos los ejemplares que se encuentran. En vista de que tuve una linda experiencia con unas palomitas, me atreví a publicar en su hermosa comunidad.Espero las fotografías sean de su agrado. Ayer, paseaba por la plaza Alsina, en Avellaneda, Buenos Aires, y allí noté que las reinas son las palomitas. Los niños las consienten, las alimentan, y ellas disfrutan con la gente que las mira y juega con ellas.
I found a dry log where some of them nest. There was a guard inside the nest and another on the branch, apparently a pair. I loved the attitude of the little white dove up there, because it didn't flinch even though there was movement. I think it was because it was on guard, always protecting its young, which I imagined were inside the dry, leafless log due to the harsh winter.
Encontré un tronco seco, donde anidan algunas de ellas. Había un guardián dentro del nido y uno vigilando sobre la rama, al parecer, eran pareja. Me encantó la actitud de la palomita blanca que estaba arriba, porque no se inmutó a pesar de que había movimiento. Pienso que era porque estaba en guardia, siempre protegiendo a sus crías, que imagino, estaban dentro del tronco seco y sin hojas por el crudo invierno.
Indeed, a dove emerged from the hollow inside the tree while I was taking the photos. I imagine it was to make sure no one was going to enter, or perhaps to check if the one guarding the nest (i.e., the white dove) was still in that strategic position. Perhaps to exchange positions with her as well. Only they will know.
De hecho, una paloma emergió del hueco del árbol mientras yo, tomaba las fotos. Imagino que era para asegurarse de que nadie entrara, o quizás para comprobar si la que custodiaba el nido (es decir, la paloma blanca) seguía en esa posición estratégica. Quizás también para intercambiar posiciones con ella. Solo ellas lo sabrán.
The fact is, today I captured several images where I could see how trusting these doves are, and how unafraid they are of humans. This is due to their habit of seeing them in their daily lives, and because neither children nor young people have ever bothered them or harmed them. On the contrary, people bring them food, and they go crazy over every handful of corn or crackers.
El caso es que hoy, capturé varias imágenes donde pude ver lo confiadas que son, y cómo no temen al humano. Esto es por la costumbre de verlos en su día a día, y de que nunca ni los niños, ni los jóvenes las han perturbado o les han hecho daño. Al contrario. La gente les lleva comida y ellas se ponen como locas al recibir cada puñado de maíz o galletas.
As you can see, they gather around waiting for more food and rush for it, as if there were no tomorrow. I can tell you that I had a lovely time watching the pigeons' movements when the children approached them. They jumped and flew briefly to get their share first, among so many others. They were truly excited and excited about the feast they were receiving from the children's hands.
Tal y como se ve, se agrupan para esperar más alimentos y se lanzan por él, como si no hubiera un mañana. Les cuento que pasé un rato lindo, contemplando los movimientos de las palomas cuando se les acercaban los niños. Daban saltos y vuelos cortos para llegar primero alcanzar su parte, ante tantas que hay.
The truth is, it's been a long time since I've been able to enjoy such a beautiful sight with that pile of popcorn. I remembered my beloved Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, where every time we passed by, I would give them their corn, and there was a huge amount, just like these. I'm very happy to have enjoyed a lovely time in this beautiful plaza. I hope to return in the spring to see the popcorn's behavior on the now-green trees.
La verdad es que tenía mucho tiempo sin poder disfrutar de un espectáculo tan lindo con ese montón de palomitas. Me recordé de la Plaza Bolívar de Caracas, donde cada vez que pasábamos por allí, les daba su maíz, y justamente eran una gran cantidad, parecida a estas. Me siento muy contenta de haber pasado un rato lindo, en esta bonita plaza. Espero poder pasar en primavera por acá nuevamente, para visualizar el comportamiento de las palomitas en los árboles ya reverdecidos.
