Hello Hive
It is most surprising to see that some rice are already producing pods this morning. It's almost as if I forgot to keep track of the time.
While we have just planted some rice even in the first week of September when the rains resumes the ones that were planted as far back as the month of August are now in this stage of growth.
We have a lot going on that we didn't keep track of time that this will be happening anytime soon.
The other section of the farm and this part aren't even ready to start producing. Their growth looks stunted because of the quality of soil and for now we are just about weeding and clearing the farm.
The grasses within the rice looks very tiny and someone can assume that these will not disturb the rice plants and nothing to worry about but from experience these it is often better to keep the farm as clean as possible as these grasses can grow up so fast to catch up with the plant or even cause an obstruction during harvest.
Before the harvest of our crops it is often advisable to keep the farm as clean as possible and for some important reasons. Rodent uses grasses as hideouts to cut off growing rice stems. Having bushes closes by and within the farm gives them an opportunity to do so. They often build houses within growing plants to cause damage.
During harvest it is often difficult to walk within the farm fo harvest grains whenever the place is filled with grasses.
For these ones that are already producing grains taking care of the farm will be a little challenging now. Herbicides can no longer be used on the plants as it can damage the producing crops.
And the grasses are a little too tiny for us to carry out hand weeding.
Hand weeding will be a bit of a rigorous exercise to pick and uproot these stubborn grasses. We are a bit stuck in what to do for this farm. It is important to keep track of our different farms and the best timings to do different things. This weeding should have been done earlier and we almost forgot these very part of the rice which we have plant early enough. It is equally difficult to apply a little fertilizer to this to enhance it growth. Most of the farms we grow our rice grains has been used over and over again depleting the nutrient such that we now rely in both organic and inorganic fertilizers to support the growth of the plants. There are no much swampy lands doe cultivation of rice hence we are stuck with repeated use of these lands.
