Hello Hive
Take a look at our massive fluted pumpkin harvest from the farms yesterday. Mostly I have left the growing of fluted pumpkins to my neighbors friends, who are the older women in the community who are desperately in need of this as a source of income to support their finances. I have two other of our family farms to take care of and grow some food for my family, and in the same vein, I equally have my own personal commercial farm, which we just started last year to see if I can make this a good business/career or source of income for myself and our co-investors.
Last year marked the beginning of the long journey into commercial first. The first experience of its kind, and I have learned a lot so far.
It's a beautiful weekend here today and more exciting because it is Easter Eve. I had one of the most peaceful sleeps in days after we had a heavy downpour yesterday evening.
Prior to the rainfall yesterday evening we had one of the most hottest days. The sun was so hot and uncomfortable tow work in, you can see from the picture how unbearable the weather is, it was such a blessing that the weather changed drastically and was followed by that heavy downpour in the evening.
The rains started at about 5pm while I was preparing to go for Passion Friday service. That eventually interrupted my going to church. There will be no public transport to convey me to church even if the rain isn't heavy. I wasn't too happy about not attending the passion service but definitely had no choice.
Our power supply had been interrupted since the downpour started. It was more of a heavy storm with thunder and lightning. I became scared in the house with my siblings. We don't know if the power lines were affected and can't even predict when the power supply will be restored.
I am so happy and delighted that the rains have finally returned and that I can now fully commence the farming activities for the year. The earlier, the better. How I wish that by this time we had our farms cultivated already. The heavy downpour yesterday is really good enough for us to start planting. The month of April is far spent, and if we want to make the best of the season, planting ought to commence by now. The rains are unpredictable, and we won't want to get hit by any mid-drought that can possibly affect crops. The best we can do now is to follow the weather strictly and take the necessary steps as the rains commence.
The weather was really cool, which made me have a very long, restful sleep, having worked on the farm with the women most hours of the day. They love having me join them to work. This was formerly my portion of the farm, but I'm not sure I will continue to grow that many vegetables; hence, I have been giving out a portion of the farm to my mothers for their own beneficial use.
We harvested so many fluted pumpkins yesterday. It's been a festive period; a lot of people will be needing vegetables to cook with.
We used knives to cut off ripe stems with quality leaves.
It's a time to make more profit for vegetable sellers while the different homes in this community will have a good supply of as many veggies as they need.
Ever since the rains started, the veggies have improved in their growth. The rain's water had better effects on them than that artificial irrigation. Sufficient water gets to water the farm. Irrigation is good when there is typically no option, but we can all be sure that rainwater is the best for every crop.
I also took enough quantities of these vegetables home for personal use, and you are all going to see what delicacy I will make of this by tomorrow. Happy Easter in advance, dearly beloved hive families and communities.
