Weeding of Our Okro farm Now at Flowering/Fruit stage

Hello Hive

A beautiful weekend to us all. It is yet another privilege to be alive, hale, and hearty. While everyone is usually grateful for the weekend as a time of rest, the reverse is usually the case for us. Weekends are our time for most activities. During the week we all have several activities we engage in, and having to spend enough time on the farm is not usually feasible.

Some days we visit the farm only by the evening time to at least do one or two things. Everyone is often engaged in multiple jobs in order to be able to provide for their families. Farming is a side hustle for some that are lucky to get white-collar jobs. You just manage your schedule for whatever job it is that you are engaged in and still be able to spare time to grow your own crop.

For those of us without serious jobs yet, we still have other engagements. Personally, I could sew clothes during the mornings and visit the farm by evening or choose to do the reverse of these activities. That's what a typical day for me looks like.

Yesterday we concluded the weeding of the okra farm, and like I said earlier, the okra are already in their flowering stage. From this time now, it takes only a little time before we start having the okra fruits around.

And once the okra plant starts producing, harvesting can be continuous for another 2 months. Okra is one of the most popularly consumed veggies here, and once these ones are ready as food, there will be as much okra for us to sell at the market from here.

We got to farm past midday when I was done sewing a dress I made for me. Since the portion where the okra was planted was fairly large, we continued weeding from where we stopped the last time.

And this must be hand weeding since the okra weren't planted in ridges that are more spacious.

This particular type was planted in square beds so that adequate water from the irrigation can circulate round the crops well.

You can see okra plants all situated in different squares facing each other.

One thing I am expecting and have always hoped to see is a greater adoption of farming by more people. If we have as many hands in this kind of farming, both vegetable food and fruits will be available in excess, more than enough to crash the high cost of food we are experiencing in the market.
