Antonio Machado complemented with his fragile worlds that dissolved like soap bubbles, those other worlds that Surrealism, led by one of its fierce and persistent defenders, Eluard, defended tooth and nail, making us see that they were also in this one.
From its broken coast, to the most inextricable of its formidable mountains, Cantabria is a monumental poem -metaphorically speaking- whose rhymes, tempered by the delicacy of a structure based on the natural attachment to beauty, make up some scenarios that, if we look closely, constantly give us that wonderful feeling that, indeed: there are other worlds, but they are also in this one.
The beauty of its coasts, surpassed, perhaps, by the unalterable presence of that no less metaphorical sleeping giant that are the superb Europe Peaks, forms only the macrocosm of a universal set of delicious cultural flavours, which are nothing other than its picturesque valleys and towns, its ancestral customs and that rich artistic heritage, whose vision and study continues, after centuries, making us dream.
Complementaba Antonio Machado con sus frágiles mundos que se diluían como pompas de jabón, aquellos otros que el Surrealismo, de la mano de uno de sus encarados y pertinaces defensores, Eluard, defendía a capa y espada, haciéndonos ver que estaban también en éste.
Desde su desgajada costa, hasta lo más inextricable de sus formidables montañas, Cantabria es un monumental poema -metafóricamente hablando- cuyas rimas, templadas por la delicadeza de una estructura basada en el apego natural a la belleza, conforman unos escenarios, que, bien mirados, nos devuelven constantemente esa maravillosa sensación de que, efectivamente: hay otros mundos, pero están también en éste.
La belleza de sus costas, superada, quizás, por la presencia inalterable de ese no menos metafórico gigante dormido que son los soberbios Picos de Europa, conforma tan sólo el macrocosmos de un conjunto universal de sabrosos sabores culturales, que no son otra cosa que sus pintorescos valles y pueblos, sus ancestrales costumbres y ese rico patrimonio artístico, cuya visión y estudio continúa, al cabo de los siglos, haciéndonos ensoñar.
