Introduction: Chapter One: My Journey into Bitcoin: taking the Orange Pill
There is a scene in the movie The Matrix involving actor Keanu Reeves and actor Lawrence Fishburn; where Keanu Reeves is told to take the red pill to open his eyes to a secret which will change his lift forever, or the blue pill, which puts him back to sleep in a state of blissful ignorance of the fire raging around him.
My story is very similar, because the decision to take the orange pill, and learn about Bitcoin was also a big decision. I had already been green pilled, and I was enjoying a world where I didnt know I was choosing comfort over truth. And while the choice before me wasn't the red pill or the blue pill from "The Matrix". It was the same type of legendary choice between reality and blissful ignorance. So for me the decision was between continue to function under the influence of the green pill, which would keep me content and ignorant of the financial reality of the US Dollar. And any other fiat currency for that matter. Or take the antidote to the green pill, the orange pill, which would awaken me to the world of Bitcoin and the knowledge of the demise of fiat and the ascendency of bitcoin.
For most of my life, I was under the influence of the green pill. The US Dollar is green, and it was the foundation of my financial world. It was a world that felt stable and predictable, where my labor was stored as dollars in a bank, and my future was measured by the numbers on a screen. But that blissful ignorance was masking a different, more troubling reality.
The problem, as I would later discover after taking the orange pill, was that the d US Dollar wasn't a static form of wealth preservation. It was more like an ice cube in a warm room, slowly but surely melting away. My time, my effort, my savings—all of it was being eroded by a silent, government-sponsored fire called inflation. The dollar of my childhood bought far more than the one in my pocket today, and it was a fact that I and many others simply accepted as a fact of life, but not fully comprehending it's deadly impact upon our financial security. Something we didnt realize almost until it was too late.
This financial erosion was not an accident; it was a feature of the system. History is full of examples of currencies that failed due to the centralized control of their issuers. From the Roman Empire debasing the silver content of its coinage to the hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic and modern-day Zimbabwe and Venezuela, the cycle is consistent. Governments, when faced with debt or war, have almost always resorted to creating or printing more money, and by doing so they are devaluing the savings of their citizens.
I was living this reality, but I couldn't see the full picture. It was as if I was on a giant, proud ship—one of the "Sinking Global Fiat Flagships"—that was slowly taking on water. But I was comfortable in my cabin, believing the illusion of stability. The worry that the world's major currencies were in trouble, heading for a potential crash, was a far-off concern I dismissed as speculation.
That all changed when someone offered me the orange pill. This pill, the color of the Bitcoin logo, was my wake-up call. To take the orange pill is to go down the "rabbit hole" of Bitcoin, to learn not just about cryptocurrency but about the fundamental flaws in the financial system I had trusted my entire life. It is a journey of understanding the history of money, the perils of centralized control, and the true meaning of financial sovereignty.
The Journey of being "Orange Pilled".
The journey of being "orange-pilled" is an intellectual one, a deep dive into concepts that challenge decades of conventional thinking. It means learning that: Inflation is a feature, not a bug: The perpetual erosion of purchasing power is a designed outcome of the current fiat system. Scarcity is key: Unlike fiat currency, which can be printed in unlimited amounts, Bitcoin has a fixed supply of 21 million coins, making it an attractive form of "sound money". Decentralization is liberation: Bitcoin's existence outside the control of any single government or corporation is a form of empowerment, giving individuals control over their wealth.
Choosing the orange pill means confronting the unsettling truth that the money I worked so hard for is not the unshakeable rock I believed it to be. But with that truth comes the exhilarating possibility of a lifeboat, a way to protect the value of my time and labor for myself and for my children's financial futures.
My journey from green pill contentment to orange pill enlightenment is a story about questioning the status quo. It's about looking beyond the convenient narratives and facing the harder, more rewarding truths that exist just beneath the surface. It's the story of how I chose to take the orange pill and see the financial world for what it truly is.
