**Cada año los profesionales a quienes les compete, realizan diagnósticos del trastorno del espectro autista, TEA. Con ellos, igualmente son las familias que se suman a esta población, cuyas necesidades como grupo social comienzan a cambiar.**

El rol de los padres en la educación de un hijo autista está condicionado, desde el punto de vista cualitativo, a la educación que tengan sobre el espectro; no solo desde el punto de vista del conocimiento; sino cómo estas características influencian el desarrollo del niño, haciéndolo único y diferente. Al aprehender la condición autista desde las relaciones afectivas que unen a padres e hijos, las experiencias de aprendizaje y de convivencia se vuelven más comprensivas.

>De allí que la participación de los padres resulta muy importante en este proceso, brindando estabilidad emocional, afecto y cariño. Además, el niño aprende a vincularse en el seno familiar y sentirse protegido y seguro. (Suarez y Vélez 2018).

By understanding the autistic condition through the emotional relationships that unite parents and children, the learning and living experiences become more comprehensive.

Sabemos que el área de autismo es compleja, de allí que los profesionales y servicios dedicados a trabajar con esta población, debe acceder constantemente a información e investigaciones para abordar el espectro desde su área de competencia.

**Comprender adecuadamente el área de autismo, puede parecer muy confuso para una persona que se inicie en este camino.**

Es por eso que los padres de diagnóstico reciente, o aquellos que por diversos motivos no han tenido la oportunidad de documentarse debidamente, deben tomar tiempo para dedicarle a su educación sobre el espectro.

>Sin comprender a la persona con autismo los padres no se pueden relacionar con ella. Es preciso que los padres comprendan el trastorno, que conozcan los síntomas que afectan a todos los aspectos del comportamiento y cómo esto se manifiesta en la vida cotidiana. Este conocimiento ayuda a restablecer un sentido de relación entre los padres y el hijo.

Particularmente, la experiencia que he tenido con las familias, y especialmente con los padres de niños autistas, ha sido satisfactoria. Son personas cuya preocupación va mucho más allá de acompañarlos y/o llevarlos a sus consultas y terapias; son personas muy estudiosas y acostumbradas a dedicar tiempo a su aprendizaje. Como lo expresa la cita anterior, esto les permite establecer con sus niños relaciones con significados afectivos muy valiosos.
▶In particular, the experience I've had with families, and especially with parents of autistic children, has been satisfying. These people's concerns go far beyond accompanying and/or taking them to appointments and therapies; they are highly studious and accustomed to devoting time to their learning. Una parte importante de este proceso educativo es la comunicación con los profesionales que atienden al niño. Este diálogo suele ser muy frecuente y algunos padres pueden sentir la necesidad de preguntar, aclarar, contrastar y/o conversar sobre sus puntos de vista. Este tiempo es de vital importancia que lo concedamos porque así estamos brindado esas oportunidades tan valiosas de aprendizaje. Igualmente esos momentos nutren nuestros conocimientos.
▶An important part of this educational process is communication with the professionals who care for the child. This dialogue is often frequent, and some parents may feel the need to ask questions, clarify, contrast, and/or discuss their points of view. It is vitally important that we allow this time because it provides valuable learning opportunities. These moments also nourish our knowledge.
