A butterfly post.

I got some action near a small stream this morning. 073.JPG

Not the normal single butterfly picture, as I caught this couple in the act today.

A lovely and warm Sunday morning and while Marian was in the shop to get some things, I don't know what she gets, as I never go into the shops, instead I was at a stream that runs past the shopping center. So here below you will see the results of my foray.

Now tell me if you can see them in the picture below? Be aware that they are very small, but I will give you a tip. Look in the center of the picture near the bottom. 056.JPG

I had to lay down to get them and they are Zebra Blues (Leptotes pirithous), size 21-29 wingspan and of course their bodies are about 9 millimeter thick. 061.JPG

Here you can see them locked in the mating game. 065.JPG

I got lucky as they flew to another plant. 072.JPG

Here was the first surprise.

A surprise and more luck, as the dragonflies are all gone so close to winter, but this guy was still hanging around. He is a Cape Skimmer (Orthetrum julia capicola) 010.JPG

Back to the butterflies and here was something different.

This is a faded Western Cape Autumn Widow (Dira clytus clytus) 048.JPG

Battered and sadly her life will soon come to an end. 050.JPG

Here we have a female Garden Acraea (Acraea horta). 005.JPG

Finally she was sitting on our Christ Thorn plant's flower. 006.JPG

Our gas prices have gone to the moon and now we are cut back down to do only short trips in order to save gas in our car's tank. The prices are adjusted and become law on every Wednesday of a new month. Luckily our car is not heavy on gas and we average a full month plus a few days on a full tank. But even on short shopping trips there is always something available for my camera and I got lucky today.

We are on the verge of winter and Papillon will have to launch a blanket collection again for our free distribution project in the poor areas. Thankfully we support a large feeding scheme and at least hot food will be available. Such is life.

We hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.

And That's All Friends.
