Hello beautiful people

Happy start of the week to everyone. I hope that we are enjoying some quality time and the weather has been fair to us. The weather has been cold here, and I love this cold weather more than the hot ones. It makes it easy for us to have some quality sleep and rest after the day's work. I hope that we are giving ourselves as much rest as more than the workload that we constantly engage in.

Today I finally took the bold steps to begin some classes in sewing and making clothes. My younger brother here is constantly short of what to wear ever since I have been actively engaged in sewing women's clothes alone. I have tried to make some male clothes by myself a couple of times, but it ended poorly; the cloth was damaged in the process.

I am not used to learning from YouTube, as there are a lot of videos there that are incorrect, and trying to follow their illustration often ends in chaos too.

My brother needed some change of clothes really badly, and this time around I decided to take the bold steps to both learn how to make male clothes properly. First I started with learning how to cut and sew a trouser here. I had purchased this guinea fabric for $3.

Then I invited home my female friend, who is also a hiver and who is much more experienced in sewing male clothes than myself, to come and put me through the process.

I was able to cut and sew a perfectly fitted pant here first.

Cutting process

Here are the measurements I used to cut the trousers.

I started with folding the fabric on the floor.

Then I left 2" above for the belt space. Before I began to take his waist measurement

Crotch depth was 11", and at that point I took his thigh measurement. Went up by 2" from the crotch depth and took his hip measurement. Next I took his full trouser length measurement and then the knee and ankle measurements.

From the pictures, you can see the shape of the knee measurements.

After cutting out the front piece, I placed it on the back and added the seam allowance of 1.5" and then an extra 2" at the crotch depth.

Sewing process

Next was sewing, which I began by attaching a little pocket.

Joined the side seams together and ironed out the hem. Most sewing of men's clothes required that we use hemming gum to first fold the hems neatly with the use of ironing before stitching them up.

Since this isn't the type we sew with zippers, that's why it's called Sokoto trouser, I simply sewed a rope he will be using to pull the trousers for fitting at the waist.

The cutting didn't give me as much stress as the sewing part, especially while trying to fix the normal pockets and some neat finishing for the trousers.

My friend stayed all through the day to put me through this learning process. I am grateful for the knowledge gained. At the end, I requested my brother to try his trousers. I leave you to be the judge of whether this fits him well or not.

I do hope that the next time I am trying this, I will get the trousers perfectly sewn without supervision. And hopefully I will be very good with sewing male clothes in order to clothe the male members of my family as well.

I will be working on a matching top for this trouser to see if I can get him a complete wear from the fabric.
