Traveling by road to a faraway and unknown destination is something that everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime. Your senses are sharpened by the new things that appear in front of you every kilometer and many times you change the way you see or understand the world around you.
Viajar por carretera a un destino lejano y desconocido es algo que toda persona debería experimentar al menos una vez en la vida. Tus sentidos se agudizan ante lo nuevo que aparece frente a ti en cada kilómetro y muchas veces cambias la forma en que ves o entiendes el mundo que te rodea.
In this, my first post in the Visual Shots community, I want to share some shots I took on the road a few years ago, traveling by road Amazonas state, Venezuela, a place I had never been. I was invited by some friends and I didn't hesitate to accept, we left from the city of Maracay at about 5:00 in the morning with the goal of reaching Puerto Ayacucho at sunset, it was more or less 10 hours of driving.
En esta, mi primera publicación en la comunidad de Visual Shots, quiero compartir unas capturas que hice por la vía hace unos años atrás, viajando por carretera hacia el estado Amazonas, Venezuela, un lugar en el que nunca había estado. Me invitaron unos amigos y no dudé en aceptar, salimos desde la ciudad de Maracay como a las 5:00 de la mañana con el objetivo de llegar a Puerto Ayacucho al atardecer, fueron más o menos 10 horas rodando.
We passed through the states of Guárico and Apure, here are some emblematic places that you will find when traveling through this part of Venezuela.
Pasamos por los estados Guárico y Apure, a continuación algunos lugares emblemáticos que te encuentras al transitar por esta parte de Venezuela.
By the city of Calabozo, Guárico, there is a huge flooded area that is part of the Guárico River Dam, who isn't going to stop to observe this gigantic engineering work? We got out of the car and saw that there is a tourist stop there, the locals even come here to fish. Its official name is "Ingeniero Generoso Campilongo" Dam and it was inaugurated in 1957, its water is used for irrigation of different crops and also to supply the population of the state.
Por la ciudad de Calabozo, Guárico, está una enorme área inundada que forma parte de la represa Río Guárico, ¿quién no se va a detener a observar esta gigantesca obra de ingeniería? Nos bajamos del carro y vimos que hay un parador turístico allí, la gente de la zona incluso viene a pescar. Su nombre oficial es Represa “Ingeniero Generoso Campilongo” y fue inaugurada en 1957, su agua se usa tanto para el riego de diferentes cultivos como también para surtir a la población del estado.
Then we continued our trip and arrived in San Fernando, capital of Apure state, there we made a stop to buy some things and we took the opportunity to look around a bit. We were in a redoma and there is like a square, the statue in the photo is by a renowned Venezuelan artist named Alejandro Colina, it is titled "Man on horseback" and represents the brave men of the plains who fought for the independence of the nation.
Luego continuamos el viaje y llegamos a San Fernando, capital del estado Apure, allí hicimos una parada para comprar algunas cosas y aprovechamos para mirar un poco los alrededores. Estábamos en una redoma y allí hay como una plaza, la estatua de la foto es de un reconocido artista venezolano llamado Alejandro Colina, se titula “Hombre a caballo” y representa a los valientes hombres del llano que lucharon por la independencia de la nación.
Then the road led us to cross the bridge over the Arauca River and a little further a solitary female figure appeared before us. It wasn't a ghost of the legends that abound in these lands (although at night it may scare many), it is Marisela, a prominent character of the famous novel Doña Bárbara, by the Venezuelan writer Rómulo Gallegos. If you haven't read it, I recommend it, it is a classic of Latin American literature.
Después la carretera nos condujo a cruzar el puente sobre el río Arauca y un poco más allá apareció ante nosotros una solitaria figura femenina. No se trataba de un fantasma de las leyendas que abundan por estar tierras (aunque de noche quizás pueda asustar a muchos), es Marisela, un destacado personaje de la famosa novela Doña Bárbara, del escritor venezolano Rómulo Gallegos. Si no la han leído, la recomiendo, es un clásico de la literatura latinoamericana.
This monument to Marisela is located within the Cinaruco-Capanaparo National Park, also called Santos Luzardo, and is part of the "Gallegos route" in Apure, more than 200 km in which you can see the scenarios that the writer describes in the novel.
Este monumento a Marisela se encuentra dentro del Parque Nacional Cinaruco-Capanaparo, también llamado Santos Luzardo, y forma parte de “La ruta de Gallegos” en Apure, más de 200 Km en los que puedes conocer los escenarios que el escritor describe en la novela.
Of course, cattle grazing near the road cannot be missing here, in the Venezuelan plains the breeding of these animals is the main economic activity.
Por supuesto que por aquí no puede faltar el ganado pastando cerca de la carretera, en los llanos venezolanos la cría de estos animales son la principal actividad económica.
The next mandatory stop is one of the most exciting of this trip, the reason? You have to cross the Orinoco River. This place is called Puerto Paez and here you take the barges to get to the other side, to Amazonas state, both cars and people ride there.
La siguiente parada obligada es una de las más emocionantes de este viaje, ¿la razón? Hay que cruzar el río Orinoco. Este lugar se llama Puerto Páez y aquí se toman las chalanas para llegar al otro lado, al estado Amazonas, se montan allí tanto carros como personas.
This trip by barge only takes about 15 minutes.
Este viaje en chalana sólo dura unos 15 minutos.
Well, we were officially in Amazonas state, although to reach its capital, Puerto Ayacucho, we still had about 80 km to go.
Bueno, ya estábamos oficialmente en el estado Amazonas, aunque para llegar a su capital, Puerto Ayacucho, nos faltaban como 80 Km.
The landscape changes with respect to Apure, where the plain predominates, here you begin to see small mountains and some dark-colored elevations, large black rocks that are characteristic of this area that is on the Guayanés Massif, a geological formation considered the oldest in the world.
El paisaje cambia con respecto a Apure, donde la llanura predomina, por aquí empiezas a ver pequeñas montañas y unas elevaciones de color oscuro, grandes rocas negras que son características de esta zona que está sobre el Macizo Guayanés, formación geológica considerada como la más antigua del mundo.
The path is as important as the destination, they say, what do you think? I also think so.
