Ahhh summer is on fire big time and I am loving every second of it. That means whenever there are some good moments off (I don't feel the need to leave the country when the weather is so fantastic, so that means I am just a working girl these summer days) that it is time to hit the good old outdoors again.
Outdoors for me then means doing something with water, because there is no better way to enjoy yourself that having some water around.
Now mind you that even though I live in Netherlands and everyone always thinks that the Netherlands is just one big water field with some occasional land built on there. Well, I can tell you that in the region where I am in, water is not prominently here and it means you always have to make an effort to head out to somewhere to enjoy the water.
Of course if I had a choice for some day activity like that, I would totally go for a good sailing trip. But you need two things for that, well maybe three even better said.
You need to have a boat to use which in my case means I have to rent one. You need water that is not too crowded on that day to just have an enjoyable session. And you need wind blowing to actually have an option to even sail.
None of these were applicable for this day.
Time for some other entertainment!

No wind = different fun
So I went on the hunt for stuff to do for hot days around water. I saw this floating off of a creek thing that also seemed cool, but hey...impulsive decisions mean that there is no availability right?
Eventually I see this 1 man company that rents out SUPs on a lake here half an hour away. And that is exactly what I was looking for on a hot day with no wind to do.
Because apart from stand up paddelling, they might as well also call it a lie down floating device to chill on.
And that makes a SUP actually a perfect activity for chilling on a hot day. Do some paddling around the corner which you can even turn into a small little workout, and then when you have reached your point...Jump on in the water and swim around.
When you are done with swimming, crawl back onto the board and soak up some tan maybe even. Heck you could even bring a beer on the beer if you would want to and keep it safe underneath the elastic strings...But I wasn't enough of a visionary to see that option up front ;)
What I normally don't like about these lake days in the summer is that they are so crowded with people. Like way too crowded. But when you are on a SUP, you just paddle off and the voices fade out in the distance with every paddle you get further away.
And actually it doesn't really matter where you are paddling to. Where if it is on the edge of the bushes to see what is inside of there, of if it is just in the middle of the lake. It is all fine.
I took the liberty of using the 2 knots of wind to drift back to shore while doing nothing. Talk about an awesome summer!
