Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about enjoying some gaming, but the risk involved!

Risk of Failure

Sometimes in life, we walk on a delicate line..

In my recent enjoyment of video games, especially older video games, I feel like there is going to end up being an issue by mistake LOL

I've been really enjoying playing Zelda, a Link To The Past. I've gotten through nearly the entire game so far.. and it's been awesome! Lots of wonderful memories there, and for sure some great gameplay that is still relevant a few decades later which is crazy to think about!

What is sketchy and a little annoying.. is that the emulator doesn't have the ability to save a local cookie with my progress! I guess that in the grand scheme of things is small potatoes.. but at the same time, I am kind of nervous about it all hahaha

If I accidentally close the window out.. or if my computer decides that it HAS to reboot or the battery dies, I am screwed for sure. This is a challenging thing for me because as much as I really want to beat the game and finish it, if it shits the bed on me, there is no fucking way I am spending all of this time again to get as far as I have gotten, from the beginning.

The comical thing about it is that I was thinking I could sort-of speedrun the thing up to a point to get it finished when I started playing it a few weeks ago. That was for sure a mistake because I ended up closing it, crashing it or freezing the game somehow several nights in a row and it for sure did not take me 10 minutes to get back to where I was, it took me an hour or two even going as fast as possible. That's pretty wild, decades later the game takes real time and patience still!

I think this is for sure one of the reasons I by far prefer the older games and platforms to the contemporary bullshit out there. For one, I don't need an internet connection to play the fucking thing besides when I downloaded the game files temporarily to my browser. These days, to even play single player, you have to connect to the fucking internet from what I've heard and that's utter bullshit! The rental economy is alive and well, as well as incredibly frustrating and toxic.

I think it's why I am far more interested in playing the old stuff than I am the new. Sure it would be cool to play the latest iterations of some of the games that I loved from my childhood such as Diablo and others, but on the other hand, I refuse to give those assholes my money, just out of principle.

While I walk the tightrope of finishing this game.. I certainly hope that it doesn't blow up in my damn face! LOL

What about you, do you have things you've played where you have to figure out a different way to play it since things are limited? What was it? Let me know in the comments!
