Sometimes things just don’t go your way in a video game. You end up in a bit of a rut to say. Things become rather infuriating as things start to pile up that rub you the wrong way. Thankfully this was just a short period in my otherwise grand adventure in Might and Magic VII.

While I was avoiding anything to do with the two factions at war for the most part. I did at least want to help resource someone excited and belonged to the side I'd prefer to win.

It was more of an excuse to go into another dungeon. The Tularean Caves ended up having some traps set up to keep people who wander in from the local area out or even better dead for daring to go into a random cave in the first place.

In my exploration of the place, I ended up finding a letter that hinted at some traps. Along with a rough outline of how to go about solving the puzzle of this place. That, there was an invisible bridge, a switch that needed to be used, and using the correct far portal.

There was also a lot of chatter about the place being filled with wyverns among other things for security. Along with that, they were not responsible for anyone getting killed by going into these caves.

I can only guess such information fell into my hands including the note. Was due to the person who was supposed to be bypassing everything getting killed and eaten by a wyvern. What a fitting end and a funny one at it as well.

After having finished so many easy dungeons and other areas. I was not quite ready for the kind of fight this place was going to put up. I dare say I should have attempted to restock a bit more food than I had. Granted it can be hard to find a tavern sometimes that offers more than I already had.

The entryway itself required a couple of attempts to clear it. I ended up just hopping out of the dungeon when needed to heal or rest as needed. A little trick that keeps working out quite well.

There ended up being two directions I could have gone. I ended up going the wrong way first. Rather the way that would have taken me to where I needed to go to save the person I was looking for. Expect there was a massive raven in the middle cutting me off from getting across. Without me knowing at the time about there being an invisible bridge.

In the other direction ended up being some short rooms followed by a series of traps. These traps would push you off the end down into a bit below. Said pit was filled with creatures to ensure you did not make it out.

On that side, I also found the rather helpful note that I've already talked about. Once I know about the bridge and the need to find a button. It was quite easy to tell where the invisible bridge was supposed to be.

I did end up rescuing the person I was sent out to acquire. At least I thought I did. Once I made it back to the queen, however. Despite the person being in my group. She declared that person was excited and told me I was too late. The person in my group then vanished.

Yet again I find myself not getting any kind of reward. Could it be the person I had in my group was an imposter? If it was, I would have hoped the queen would have said something. This feels like another bug or something.

All I can say at this point is I'm not a fan of these timed quests. Even more so when I should have been within the time limit. Had the person with me. Then told Nope I failed to save them in time. How infuriating.

As if that was not enough. I went off to another zone and was told of a wine cellar needing clearing. Sounded easy till I was told it was full of vampires. They were even clinging to the side of the ceiling when I entered the cellar like total weirdos.

I’ll admit these vampires were taught to take out. Thankfully I was in a town close to getting heals or a tavern for more food if needed. I ended up taking a few rest breaks from this place to heal up.

For me to finish this quest all I had to do was fully clear the cellar out. I killed every single vampire in the place. All exact one. Try as I might I ended up failing to take him out time again and again. He had some powerful hits that would kill or knock out a party member.

![not a dragon cave.jpg](https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/enjar/23xVErUjekPt376TT6mH1w37LNQDqqtqNeYSDAomjWwL7TAom4XXjF1kooVvxjVyEziSL.jpg)

At this point, things have been a bit infuriating. I felt I might as well while down on my luck go and see if I could kill a dragon. That should cheer me up. This was the only screenshot I took of that attempt.

No, I did not get further screenshots because a dragon one-shot me. That would at least be progress. It would have given me some hope that I one day would have a chance at killing a dragon.

The cave was empty. I guess the dragon was elsewhere at the time. Thankfully at a later point in time, I'd get to face the dragon again. I’d get the last laugh that time around. That however was not this time around.

I at least thought I was going to get some phat loot out of the deal. I could see on the mini-map there were icons for loot on the ground. I guess this was a rather poor dragon as everything was junk.

There was also a dungeon nearby that I had skipped over. Nothing like finding out you don’t belong somewhere and then almost getting killed just popping in to say high. I quickly left that zone and decided to venture into a new area. Hoping that my luck would be turning around at any point.

That new area was called Deyja. A horrible place full of evil people. All wanting me to become evil. I’ll get into more details about these evil people soon enough but not in this post.

There was however one thing that went down that I'll talk about. There I was just minding my own business. I had not even killed anyone yet in Deyja. When out of nowhere this guy demanded 1k gold or else.

He picked the wrong day to piss me off. A threat of getting ambushed by lots of zombies. Now that sounds like a good time. He called it the necromancer tax for some reason.

Since I killed all his zombie friends. I guess they ended up paying the necromancer tax and not myself. It’s a shame I did not get to fight him either. After he attempted to kill me over a pitiful amount of gold. I should be given the chance to return to favor.

Final Thoughts

Thankfully this little rut I was in would not be lasting much longer. Shortly after all of this, I'd end up finding something for once worth buying out of a shop. I was starting to stockpile so much gold in the bank anyway at this point that spending less than 6k on an upgrade like this was well worth the money. Thankfully I did not go on to loot one ten minutes later now that would be truly infuriating.
