On Saturday morning I was doing pretty well. I got my post up, the cat fed, and got out to the New Herb garden by 9AM. As I went down the front steps I saw the rain flattened mum. So I decided to fix it.
But first I had to get the weeds out so I could see what I was doing. Just this little garden filled a sled. I didn’t get the little weeds, just enough big ones so I could work. I’d brought some supports from the garden shed and they worked well supporting the mum branches.
The mum in the West of Steps garden was too small to get flattened. Its buds are just starting to color up.
I finally got into the New Herb garden and Row 7 that I had weeded 10 days ago was full of tiny weeds again. So I had to weed it before I could get the mulch down. I decided because it was so late now, not to plant the chamomile. So finally Row 7 is done. I still have several walkways to rake, and lots of weeding in the other walkways and beds to do, at least another day’s work.
I made my notes, got my photos and cleaned up. Then I wandered around taking photos.

The mulch hay pile is much smaller. It will go in the Small garden as we clean that out. It has to be done soon as the acorns are falling now. I need to get the tarps on to catch them so they won’t be in the mulch and growing all winter.

I walked around the Big garden clockwise and took a photo from each corner.
The next harvest out of this garden is lima beans on Sunday.
The Small garden has a lot of squashes and pumpkins to harvest. I plan to do that on Sunday. I hope this week to finish in this garden and get the tarps down. I’ll get the last harvest of broccoli, get the leeks into the freezer, along with the beets. All that will be left is the cat grass corner. Then I can mulch it as needed before putting down tarps.
The witch hazel is just starting to flower. There’s been a mystery plant growing in the compost bin all summer. It now has a huge squash like fruit on the outside of the bin. It doesn’t look like anything I’ve ever grown. I guess I’ll find out what it is if it finally ripens.
On Sunday I have a ton of photos to edit from Saturday, 2 posts to write, the kitchen to clean up, lima beans to harvest at 8AM, pumpkins to put on the front steps, squash to harvest, lime beans to process for the freezer, and my brother is taking me to search for a goldy mum.
So another busy day….
