On Saturday morning Tom arrived just after 8AM to get the foliar feeding done. He starts off with the foliar feeding before doing the milk spray.
He took photos as he went around to the various gardens, so these are all his photos.
He did the Small garden first and found a LOT of squashes.
Next was the Big garden and he found many artichokes coming along. Two of them he picked as they were ready.
After he finished in the Big garden, the New Herb garden was next. He found a monarch butterfly on the Echinacea purpurea and was happy when he caught it in flight, in the 3rd photo.
Then he went around the house and other gardens feeding plants.
He moved the wood and lifted the netting on the Little Trees II and found the prettiest peach on the east side of the Reliance peach tree. It’s not ripe at all, but sure had some lovely color.
On the west side of the Reliance peach tree, there were nearly 20 peaches. The chokeberries are ripening nicely now. He said when he lifted the netting, a wren flew out. I knew there was 1 wren sized hole in the netting.
The last ones done were the Little Trees on the west side of the yard. The elderberries are starting to ripen. My #3 intern said he can come back on Friday and I hope to get some of the elderberries covered.
Once he’d run out the foliar mix in the sprayer, he made up the milk spray and went around and got all the plants that need that.
Then there was the job of really cleaning out the sprayer. So far we’ve not had plugged nozzle problems like we’d been having, and he wants to keep it that way.
The job takes 3 hours from start to finish and needs to be done as early in the morning as possible. I’m very grateful Tom took this over when my helper friend was injured. The plants are doing really well as a result.
