Grapes and the Female Finch 🍇

Grapes are almost ready in my backyard! Usually, they ripen in October or sometimes early November. However, this summer was very dry, which may be why the grapes turned purple earlier. I already tasted some, and they were very tasty, though still a bit sour. They’ll be fully ready in a few days. I think I’ll pick one bunch of grapes today.

When I was reaching for the grapevines, I noticed someone watching me from the tree. I felt it was small and gentle. Since I had brought my phone to take photos of the grapes, I pointed it toward the trees. Through the camera, I saw a pretty finch, probably a female.

As soon as I said hi to it, it moved around in the tree, but it didn’t fly away. I shared a little moment with it, and I love seeing small birds like this. If it wants, it’s welcome to eat our grapes when they’re ready.

Some of the grapes are ripe, but not whole bunches yet, so I have to carefully choose one.

This year marks a full recovery for these grapevines. Two years ago, I had to trim them back, so they couldn’t produce much fruit last year. Fortunately, this year’s growth was excellent. Even the second vine, which was smaller and younger, produced a lot of grapes for the first time. The third vine is still very small and didn’t bear fruit this year, but hopefully it will next year. I can’t wait to eat them soon! ;)

ぶどうとメスのフィンチ🍇

裏庭のぶどうがいよいよ食べごろになりつつあります！たいてい、庭のぶどうは１０月か１１月初旬に熟します。ところが、今年の夏は乾燥が激しく、紫に色づくのが早かったです。いくつか味見をしてみました。まだ少し酸っぱいとはいえ、とてもいい味です。数日でちょうど良い味になると思います。今日あたり一房採ってみようと考えています。

ぶどうを見に行こうとしたところ、木の間から誰かさんがこちらを見ているような気がしました。小さくて優しい感じがしました。ぶどうの写真を撮りに行こうと思いスマホを持っていたので、ちょうどいいので木を写真に撮りました。カメラを通して、かわいらしいメスのフィンチ（アトリ科）が見えました。

写真の左側に鳥が見えていますか？

挨拶をするとすぐに、木の枝から枝へと飛び回っていましたが、飛んで行ったりはしませんでした。しばらくの間一緒に過ごしました。小さな鳥を見かけるのは好きです。ぶどうが熟したら食べにきてくれてもいいですよと話しかけました。

かなりいい色合いになってきているのですが、まだ一房まるごと食べ頃にはなっていません。きちんと見極める必要があります。

今年のぶどうはかなり回復してきたと思います。２年前、剪定をしなければならなかったので、去年はほとんど実がなりませんでした。今年はようやく回復して、元通りたくさんの実をつけてくれました。２列目の小さかった木にも今年はきちんと実がなっています。３列目のぶどうの木はまだまだ小さくて実がなっていません。来年は３列ともすべてに実がなってほしいと思います。食べ頃になるのが待ち遠しいです！
