Then I have the perfect place for you, with both in one place, it's in Phuket town (more specifically in Wichit Subdistrict, Mueang District) and you'll have a great Saturday or Sunday afternoon there 😊
In Phuket town there is 2 famous Phuket Weekend Night Market. Today, my post will focus about a very nice temple just opposite side of the Chaofa Variety Phuket Weekend Market #ตลาดนัดเจ้าฟ้าวาไรตี้ that you can visit before the flea market opens at 4pm.
From there you can see the parking of the Chaofa Variety Phuket Weekend Market on the opposite side, on the right side of the photo are the Thai burial grave.
This Thai Buddhist temple is the Naka Temple or Wat Nakaram (wat meaning temple in thai) #วัดนาคาราม, this temple has a very interesting history.
In the past, many areas in Phuket were used for mining, as it is also the case for Wat Nakaram. It was originally a dune from Anuphat Phuket Mining Company, the owner Mr. Wirat Hongyok, belonging to one of the most prominent families in Phuket, donated the land to build this temple 50 years ago.
Originally, there was only a pavilion, built-in 1964, so it is considered one of the oldest temples in Phuket.

From there you can see the hills of Phuket behind the Thai burial grave called ธาตุเก็บอัฐิ containing the ashes of members of the Thai family. The Thai burial grave in a Buddhist temple are always located close to the fence.
The temple also has a school for monks to learn Buddhism.
When you walk inside the temple, you will see a large golden 3-story pagoda. A pagoda is the place where the Buddha's relics are preciously conserved.
On the side of the pagoda, there is a bell for telling the time.
Elephants have an important place in Thai life, that's why it is not uncommon to see them represented in the temple as a picture or statue. There is 2 representation of Elephants on the outside wall of the pagoda.
Every pillar of the pagoda has a statue of an angel. attached to the corner of the pole.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, it is not possible to go inside the pagoda in temples. While my husband was photographing the pagoda, a monk came and said that since we were the only people in the temple, we could exceptionally go upstairs to take pictures.
It can be noticed that in most Thai temples the railing will be built in the shape of a serpent. In the belief, whether it is Brahmanical religion or Buddhism, creating a railing in the shape of a serpent means guarding the religious place. The snake is a medium like a bridge connecting the human world and the celestial realm to each other.
เดินเข้ามาภายในบริเวณวัด ก็จะเห็นเจดีย์สีทองขนาดใหญ่ ตั้งตระหง่านอยู่กลางวัด เจดีย์นี้เป็นที่เก็บพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ ของพระพุทธเจ้า ถัดจากเจดีย์ก็เป็นหอระฆัง ที่ใช้สำหรับตีบอกเวลา รอบๆ เจดีย์ก็จะมีรูปของโขลงช้าง ซึ่งบัวเห็นมันสวยดี รอบๆ เจดีย์ก็เหมือนกับหลายๆ ก็จะมีเทวดาประจำอยู่แต่ละเสาของเจดีย์ มีราวบันไดเป็นรูปพญานาค
My husband and I walked up to the second floor of the pagoda, This floor is at the edge of the balcony. There is a Dharma Chakra also known as wheel of Dharma in the middle between the two Naga tails.
Looking down, you will see a small pavilion. There is a beautiful statue of Buddha enshrined inside.

On the second floor, inside, there is a statue of the abbot who founded this temple.

The third floor is where the relics of Buddha are kept. The relics are in a large glass jar and are surrounded by glass.
เจดีย์นี้มีอยู่ 3 ชั้น แต่ชั้นแรกบัวไม่ได้เข้าไปด้านใน บัวเดินขึ้นไปชั้นที่ 2 และ 3 เลย ชั้นที่ 2 เป็นประวัติของเจ้าอาวาสที่อยู่ตั้งแต่แรกเริ่มเดิมที ชั้น 3 ก็จะเป็นที่เก็บพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ ซึ่งเก็บไว้ในโหลแก้วขนาดใหญ่ แถมด้านนอกยังมีกระจกกั้นอีกชั้น การถ่ายรูปที่เป็นกระจกแบบนี้บัวไม่ชอบเลย มันสะท้อน ทำให้ภาพออกมาไม่สวย
Looking down, you will see a beautiful chapel, which is considered an important building within the temple as it is the place for monks used for chanting the Patimokkha and ordained. The architecture chosen for the chapel has, as usual, high roofs like Thai houses.
หลังจากที่ลงมาจากเจดีย์แล้ว บัวก็มาถ่ายรูปอุโบสถด้านล่าง เป็นอุโบสถที่มีความสวยงามมากๆ กำแพงที่ล้อมรอบอุโบสถก็จะเป็นรูปช้างตัวเล็ก และตัวใหญ่กำลังเดิน ช่วงโควิดนี้วัดทุกวันส่วนใหญ่แล้วจะเงียบ ไม่มีค่อยมีผู้คนเข้ามาทำบุญที่วัดเท่าไหร่ ไม่เหมือนกับวัดดังๆ ที่แม้แต่โควิดก็ยังเอาไม่อยู่ ต้องไปสักครั้ง
วันที่บัวถ่ายรูป บัวชอบรูปนี้ ตอนที่ถ่ายรูปบัวยืนอยู่ใต้ต้นโพธิ์ใหญ่หน้าอุโบสถ ทำให้เห็นตัวของโบสถ์ เจดีย์ มีท้องฟ้าสีฟ้าเป็นพื้นหลัง
This is Garuda, according to ancient Thai belief, he is the serpent of all birds and is the vehicle of Lord Vishnu. Garuda lives in heaven. He is represented as a half man and half eagle, blessed to be immortal that no weapon can destroy.
