A Beach Waiting to Be Discovered

Happy Friday Hivers! ## One of the precious traits I inherited from my mother is my love for adventure. My mom loves to travel and explore different places, even if most of her trips are just within Leyte. I see myself in her because I, too, have that same eagerness to explore and discover new places. ##  ## When I visited her, she told me that she had discovered a nice spot in Hilongos, just near the port. I kept wondering where it could be, since I had been to the port in Hilongos many times and had never seen such a place. My curiosity was instantly sparked. ##  ## So we agreed to go early since we still had other plans that day. When we arrived at the beach, it was still a bit hot because it was almost 4 PM. It turned out the place was just near the road. I was pleasantly surprised because from there, you could get a clear view of the Hilongos seaport. ##  ## There were only a few people when we arrived since it was a weekday. I saw a family swimming, and I assumed they were celebrating a birthday because I noticed a birthday cake with them. ##  ## The beach was actually nice, but you could tell that no one was really taking care of it because there was a lot of trash around. If it were well-maintained, I’m sure more people would come here to swim. But according to my mom, when she happened to visit on a weekend, there were a lot of people swimming, even in the late afternoon. ##  ##  ## When we reached the cleaner part of the beach, I took off my slippers because I was excited to walk barefoot. Whenever I’m at the beach, that’s usually the first thing I do walk barefoot to feel more connected with the earth. But at first, I couldn’t stand the heat of the sand and had to stop a few times before I could finally tolerate it. ##  ## I honestly didn’t expect that when we reached the far end of the beach, the view would be that beautiful. I kept telling my mom how nice the place was. It looked like such a great spot to play volleyball, and it would also be perfect to bring some tables and chairs and just hang out there. If you look behind me, that’s actually the seaport. From where I was standing, you wouldn’t really notice this view if you were at the seaport. From there, you’d just see an ordinary beach, but you wouldn’t appreciate its true beauty unless you were actually standing right there on the shore. ##  ## I really love this part because its shape looks so stunning. It’s just a bit hard to see clearly because it was against the light. That’s really my struggle — I’m not very good at adjusting my camera settings, or I’m not even sure if there’s a way to fix it when the problem is shooting against the light. ##  ##  ## One of the things that really makes beaches in the Philippines beautiful is the line of coconut trees along the shore. They give off such a tropical vibe and make the beach look even more stunning. No matter which beach you visit in the country, you’ll almost always see them. ##  ## Since my mom and I still had other plans, we decided to head out. I couldn’t help but think that if this beach were well taken care of, it would be so much more beautiful and people would appreciate it more. Maybe someday, someone will initiate a coastal clean-up here and take the lead in managing this beach. Who knows? ##  ##  ##
