Monomad: Solitary Wasp

@akukamaruzzaman · 2025-08-18 17:02 · hive-142159

Yesterday, nature seemed to lead me to meet this adorable, solitary creature. I noticed a thread-waisted wasp (Prionyx parkeri) perched on a hairy shrub. It became restless, its two antennae vibrating violently as if signaling danger as I approached, only inches from its perch. But it was mistaken; I wasn't an insect predator. I thought we should get acquainted.

There are many thread-waisted wasps that live alone in the bushes in our area. They prefer dry twigs to perch on. Their abdomens are bright yellow, like incandescent volcanic lava.
