Machu Picchu: The Reward of the Climb / Machu Picchu: La Recompensa de la Subida [Eng-Esp]

Hello, dear Black and White community!

I've got a horrible flu, winter has hit me hard. I haven't been able to take any photos, so I went through my archives and found the day I climbed up to Mapi (Machu Picchu) on foot to catch the sunrise. I was with my friend Andrés; he wanted to have that experience, but I don't recommend it because, once you get to the ruins, you're exhausted. I told him a thousand times, but he insisted on climbing. What normally takes 2 hours, we did in 3. We left at 4 a.m. and I set a good pace, although I had to wait for my friend to rest afterwards.

Well, we made it, and when we were almost there, a tremendous rain started. For us 'limeños' from the capital, we're not used to that kind of rain (it almost never rains in Lima). It was an unwanted shower, but we made it. Everything was covered by fog. It was my friend's first time at Mapi, and he couldn't see a thing; his face said it all. I, however, knew that the moment would get better and that he would be amazed by the spectacle of how the curtain opens to reveal the majestic Inca citadel, until we could see Huayna Picchu, the peak, the APU (mountain).

After waiting for hours, we finally got to see the entire majestic Inca empire, and it was worth it. With this, I'm closing my Machu Picchu photo series; it's the last I had. I hope you like it. For me, it's always a pleasure to show you one of my favorite places and a little bit of what my country has to offer.

Hola querida comunidad en Blanco y Negro

Estoy con una gripe horrible, el invierno me ha golpeado fuerte. No he podido sacar fotos, así que recurrí a mis archivos y encontré el día en que subí a Mapi (Machu Picchu) caminando para encontrar el amanecer. Estaba con mi amigo Andrés; él quería vivir esa experiencia, pero yo no la recomiendo porque, una vez en las ruinas, terminas muy cansado. Se lo dije mil veces, pero él quería subir. Lo que normalmente se hace en 2 horas, nosotros lo hicimos en 3. Salimos a las 4 a.m. y yo le metí buen ritmo, aunque luego tuve que esperar a que mi amigo descansara.

Bueno, lo logramos, y cuando no faltaba mucho, empezó una lluvia tremenda. Para nosotros, los limeños de la capital, no estamos acostumbrados a esas lluvias (casi nunca llueve en Lima). Fue un baño no deseado, pero llegamos. Todo estaba tapado por la neblina. Era el primer Mapi de mi amigo, y no se veía nada; su cara de desilusión lo decía todo. Yo, sin embargo, sabía que el momento mejoraría y que se maravillaría con el espectáculo de cómo el telón se abre para revelar la majestuosa ciudadela inca, hasta poder ver el Huayna Picchu, la cumbre, el APU (montaña).

Luego de esperar horas, por fin se pudo ver todo el majestuoso imperio inca, y valió la pena. Con esto cierro mi serie de fotos de Machu Picchu; es lo último que tenía. Espero que sea de su agrado. Para mí, siempre es un placer mostrarles uno de mis lugares favoritos y un poco de lo que mi país tiene para ofrecerles.
