A short time ago, I had an idea that I developed into a short film script. It's a drama with elements of magical realism, a Latin American literary genre that portrays fantastical elements as part of everyday life. These elements are accepted as normal, no matter how crazy they seem.
The story I wrote is called "The Door of the Trinity". It's about a strained relationship between a father and son, which gets even more complicated when death arrives at their home and tells them they must decide which one of them has to die.
Months later, I managed to gather a great team of friends and acquaintances. We filmed non-stop for two days. It's incredible to see how a group of people, driven by nothing more than the desire to grow together, dedicated hours of work even though the budget couldn't cover their fees.
When you don't have enough resources, filmmaking is a financial drain on your own pocket. But it's worth it, because the experience is incredibly enriching and can lead you down the path you want to be on.
Hace poco tuve una idea que se convirtió en el guion de un cortometraje. Es un drama con elementos de realismo mágico, un género literario latinoamericano que integra lo fantástico en la vida cotidiana de una manera tan natural que se acepta sin cuestionamiento, por muy extraño que parezca.
La historia se titula "La Puerta de la Trinidad". Trata de la tensa relación entre un padre y un hijo que se complica aún más cuando la muerte llega a su casa, forzándolos a decidir quién de los dos morirá.
Meses después, logré reunir a un equipo de amigos y conocidos increíble, con quienes grabamos sin parar durante dos días. Es asombroso cómo un grupo de personas, motivadas únicamente por el deseo de crecer juntos, dedicó horas de trabajo, incluso sabiendo que el presupuesto no podía cubrir sus honorarios.
Cuando no tienes los recursos suficientes, hacer cine es un gasto de tu propio bolsillo. Pero vale la pena, porque la experiencia es sumamente enriquecedora y puede abrirte el camino hacia donde quieres llegar.
