I’ve often found myself blocked by the thought that I have nothing interesting to write. That’s why this challenge of writing daily—for 11 days now, with this post—has been a bit difficult for me, I won’t deny it. I was thinking about that just before 4 a.m. today, when I opened my eyes and, a few minutes later, found myself in the kitchen sipping my first glass of water.

So I’ve been reflecting on this for a while—on how dull our lives can seem when we view them that way: automatically, focusing only on what we do, rather than how we do it, what we feel, or the lessons we gather along the way.

I set the coffee pot to brew and noticed, on the counter in the centre of my small kitchen, a handful of passion fruits waiting to be pulped. And as I repeated the motion—cutting them open and scooping out that juicy, seed-filled mass with a small spoon, so it could fall into a plastic container already holding frozen pulp from the day before—I thought about these images, about what I might say of them, and about what each person who comes across this post, once it’s published, might think or feel… which depends on countless factors and just as many alignments.

I’ve managed to capture these photos in Old Havana during my visits to the Archbishop’s office, searching for important documents for a process that will likely change my life. I’ve also been thinking about how changed I already feel since I began this search, and about the lessons it has brought with it…

Now I’ll prepare myself to walk those streets again… I won’t rush it. My search continues, and with each step I take, I feel I’m being guided along the path of patience. I go with my heart pounding strongly, that much is true. I’m also certain that we mustn’t stop moving towards what we long for. And the narrow path—the one less travelled—need not be feared.
