On my terrace / En mi terraza

Sitting on my terrace at 5:30 is almost a ritual. I try to get home early and get things ready so that, in those intimate minutes with the afternoon and its best light, nothing gets in the way. It's my time reserved for practicing photography.

Sentarme a las cinco y media en mi terraza ya es casi un ritual. Intento llegar temprano a casa y dejar las cosas listas para que, en esos minutos de intimidad con la tarde y sus mejores luces, nada se interponga. Es mi tiempo reservado para hacer prácticas de tiro fotográfico.

Photographing a moving bird is an absolute challenge. You can have everything in order—camera ready, perfect framing, controlled exposure—and at the last minute: Blur. Birds don't stay still; their natural reflexes always push them to move.

Fotografiar un ave en movimiento es un desafío absoluto. Puedes tener todo en regla. – Cámara lista, encuadre perfecto, exposición controlada… y en el último instante: Desenfoque. Las aves no se quedan quietas, sus reflejos naturales las empujan siempre al movimiento.

Therefore, getting a decent image under these circumstances is, in my opinion, a mix of technique, patience, and a bit of good luck (even more so for the beginner I still consider myself).

Por eso, conseguir una imagen decente bajo esas circunstancias es, a mi entender, una mezcla de técnica, paciencia y algo de buena suerte, (más aún para el principiante que aún me considero ser)

While I fine-tune my technique, the appropriate adjustments, and a bit of the instinct that comes with the occasion, I allow myself to enjoy the perfect complement: sunsets.

Mientras voy afinando la técnica, los ajustes pertinentes y un poco del instinto que nace de la ocasión, me permito disfrutar del complemento perfecto: las puestas de sol.

From my terrace, and surely from yours too, the afternoons offer something different every day: unexpected lights, fleeting silhouettes, subtle atmospheres, or unforgettable backlighting.

Desde mi terraza, y seguro, desde la tuya también, las tardes regalan algo distinto cada día: luces insospechadas, fugaces siluetas, atmósferas sutiles o contraluces inolvidables.

If you come here around five in the afternoon, bring your camera (or your cell phone, any equipment will do). I invite you to practice shooting together. Perhaps the lens will capture something that surprises us.

Si vienes por aquí, a eso de las cinco de la tarde, trae tu cámara (o tu celular, cualquier equipo sirve al propósito) te invito a que hagamos prácticas de tiro juntos. Quizás el lente capte algo que nos sorprenda.
