Yesterday was an important day for choral singers like me. At the National Theater, we gathered with different choral groups, some from the capital and others from around the country. I remember leaving home very early, dressed in a suit and tie, but I took advantage of the time to go for a walk before the main event. I have always believed that it is important to focus on ourselves, meditate, and take some time in silence before each concert. Although there are few opportunities to do so as a group, it is something that everyone should take on personally (if they need to). “I need it...”
Ayer fue un día importante para los cantantes de música coral como yo. En el Teatro Nacional nos reunimos distintas agrupaciones corales, varias de la capital y otras del interior del país. Recuerdo que salí de casa muy temprano, estaba vestido de traje y corbata, pero aproveché el tiempo para dar un paseo antes del evento principal. I didn't go very far from the theater, as that would have caused me stress. Besides, the surrounding areas are very pleasant to look at. It's like the southernmost part of the city center, and there are other interesting sculptures and buildings. Under intense sunlight, but with a dreamy blue sky, the walk was very comfortable, shaded by some trees in the square next to the theater. It's an urban area with some strange people wandering around, but I still felt comfortable walking there.
No me fui muy lejos del teatro, eso sí que me causaría estrés, además, las zonas cercanas son muy agradables a la vista, es como la zona más sur del casco central de la ciudad y todavía hay otras, esculturas, y edificaciones de mucho interés. Bajo un sol intenso, pero que propició un cielo azul de ensueño, el paseo fue muy cómodo y con sombra de algunos árboles en la plaza que acompaña al teatro. Es una zona urbana con personas un poco extrañas que deambulan por ahí, pero de igual manera me sentí a gusto caminando por ahí.
It wasn't long, this walk took just over 20 minutes until my colleagues began to arrive. I remember ending up eating ice cream with some of them and then feeling completely at peace to connect with the madrigals we sang, some very sublime compositions, worthy of being performed in a place like this, full of so much history and where so many artists from various generations have passed through. Today we have a second concert for National Choral Singing Day, but this one will be at our home, the headquarters of my musical institution. No fue mucho rato, esta caminata fue poco más de 20 minutos hasta que comenzaron a llegar mis compañeros, recuerdo que terminé comiendo helado con algunos de ellos y luego me sentí totalmente en paz para conectar con los madrigales que cantamos, unas composiciones muy sublimes, dignas de ser interpretadas en un lugar como este, lleno de tanta historia y por donde han pasado tantos artistas de varias generaciones. Hoy tenemos un segundo concierto por el Día Nacional del Canto Coral, pero este será en nuestra casa, la sede de mi institución musical, es probable que me vuelva a permitir un momento de conexión conmigo mismo...
