Since I was very young, I have been a huge fan of anime. The fun and joy I felt watching each of these shows was special. My journey through anime began with one of the most famous, “Naruto,” an anime that develops a great story in which you see the magnificent evolution of Naruto Uzumaki, undoubtedly captivating to the audience and very addictive. But anyway, today we're not going to talk about Naruto or anything like that. Currently, I'm a big fan of sports anime, including Tsubasa, Blue Lock, Aoashi, and Haikyu. But without a doubt, the best sports anime I've seen so far has been “Fighting Spirit,” an anime that focuses specifically on the art of boxing and shows us the evolution and efforts of a young Japanese man who is passionate about boxing. Today, I'll talk about the protagonist's initial journey to becoming the champion in his first boxing tournament, so without further ado, let's get started, my friends. This story begins with a short scene in which our protagonist, Ippo Makunouchi, helps his mother with her work. His mother rents out fishing boats, and Ippo helps her carry heavy boxes to the boats. Now, you may be wondering, how did he get started in boxing? Don't worry, my friends, you'll find out soon enough. Ippo is a 16-year-old boy who has a hard time socializing at school, but one of the reasons for this is that he focuses on helping his mother with her work, regardless of missing opportunities to go out with friends. When he leaves school, three boys who attend the same school appear and show us that Ippo is abused by them, the reason for the abuse being his mother's work. At that moment, he is brutally beaten and they even insult his mother. Fortunately, a boxer named Mamoru Takamura sees the scene while out jogging and defends Ippo, humiliating the bullies with his speed and ripping the buttons off their shirts. Before long, Ippo passes out, and when he wakes up, he finds himself in a boxing gym. Here we realize that Takamura took him there to help him with his injuries. Takamura explains that he carried him to the gym, as it was the first place he could remember where there would be a medical kit to help him. Mamoru then tells him that there is nothing he hates more than cowards and proceeds to draw the face of the bully who insulted Ippo's mother on a sandbag and tells Makunouchi to hit it. However, the punch is weak, and Takamura explains how to do it and improve his technique. Ippo repositions himself and, when he throws the punch, completely breaks the blade with the power of his punch, leaving everyone completely surprised. Before Ippo leaves, Takamura gives him some tapes of the best knockouts in history. Ippo watches these tapes at night after helping his mother and is stunned. We are then shown several scenes that suggest that Ippo is gradually becoming passionate about this sport and deciding to become a professional boxer, and this is where his boxing career begins. When he meets Mamoru again, he tells him that he wants to be a professional boxer and that he wants to train at his gym. However, Takamura loses his temper a little, telling him that being a professional is not easy and that not just anyone can become one overnight, especially not because of a pipe dream. Nevertheless, Ippo explains that his mind is made up and he is determined to become a professional boxer. Takamura takes him to a tree and shows him how quickly he can grab many leaves from the tree by throwing jabs rapidly. After the demonstration, he tells him that he must grab at least 10 leaves in a week and then he can train in boxing. At that moment, Ippo begins to practice from morning until nightfall until he achieves his goal before his deadline. The young man could not catch more than two leaves from the tree until he remembered Takamura and, thanks to his memory, he managed to figure out the trick to his speed to achieve his goal. After so much effort and sacrifice, he finally succeeded. Takamura finds him completely exhausted while jogging, and Ippo asks him to accompany him and watch closely, as he is completely exhausted and may only be able to do it once. When he demonstrates, he does it perfectly, and the next day he takes him to the gym. However, the owner of the boxing gym is not convinced by the boy and puts him in a sparring match with the best fighter there to see what the boy can do. Although he did not manage to win, he demonstrated the courage, endurance, and power of his punches in the ring, so the boy managed to join the gym and began the path to his dream. He trained very hard before the Eastern Block rookie tournament to fulfill the promise he made to his friend Ichiro Miyata to face him in the final. His first opponent in the tournament was an African-American boxer named Ouzma, who had powerful right hooks capable of knocking out his opponent with a single blow. The battle became tough and tense for both boxers, but fortunately, Ippo won by knockout. He was looking forward to facing his next opponent, Kenta Kobashi, who did not have powerful punches but made his opponents lose their rhythm by using the clinch technique and throwing quick jabs to earn points and win by decision. When facing Ippo, he made it difficult for him with this technique, but when he landed a good punch on Ippo, the sensation that ran through his body caused him to become obsessed with winning by knockout, causing Ippo to win by knockout 2 seconds before the end of the fight, thus reaching the semifinals of the tournament. In the semifinals, he faced a very complete opponent named Hayami, a stylist with a great left uppercut worthy of a brawler. That uppercut is his finishing move. The fight was very complicated, with Hayami in control at all times, but Ippo's drive to face his friend and rival Miyata in the final led him to victory by knockout, advancing him to the final once and for all. Unfortunately, when Miyata fought his semifinal opponent Mashiba, he lost by knockout, eliminating him from the tournament and depriving Ippo of the opportunity to face him. However, Ippo was so enraged by Mashiba's dirty victory that he had even more reason to win the tournament. The day of the final fight arrives and there is a lot of tension between the two fighters. A wild fight ensues, with both on the verge of falling to the canvas, but thanks to their obsession and desire to win, not to mention their resilience, they manage to stay on their feet and continue fighting. After three rounds of exchanging blows, Ippo manages to knock out Mashiba, crowning himself champion and winning the award for most valuable boxer of the tournament. Fighting Spirit is not just another boxing anime. This anime shows us the real process, pain, and effort that each of these athletes puts in to be better every day and become champions in their competitions. It shows us and helps us understand the background of this sport and how beautiful it is. Well, my friends, that's all for today. See you soon, and take it easy! ![IMG_20230826_
